Hooked up the Adcom today. Sounds wonderful. Playing around with the buttons I noticed when balance knob is in middle both speakers are working & sounds perfect. Turn balance knob to left nothing/no sound at all---Turn it all the way to right & both speakers are both working--vs just the right speaker...Any thoughts besides leave it in the middle. Lol (where both work fine)
also. There is a little button on back by speaker connect that is adjustable. Where should i keep it set at---i did no research on this & thought i would just ask here--- hooked to my SDA's only. TIA randy

Randy- Could you post a pic of the back? A lot of times there is a output level adjustment on each channel. If that is what it is, I would run it maxed out and control volume with the pre.
As to the balance ?... could you try gently removing the plastic knob covering the actual shaft and see if you can hand turn the knob all the way left for left and right for right only. Bring it back to the indent indicating center/equal balance and replace knob with indicator pointing straight up. If it still has the same issue, I'd try using some deoxit spray (access the hole on the shaft inside the chassis by removing cover) and working the shaft thru full motion multiple times to see if that clears and oxidation or crud issues on the contact. Other than that I don't have any idea why it would do that. Good luck working it out.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -
Sounds like there is build-up in the balance pot. A De-Oxit bath should help a bunch. Any scratchiness in the pots otherwise?
On the amp, the back should look like this:
And looking at the picture of your amp, other than whatever funky stuff is attached to the binding posts, that's exactly how yours looks.
There shouldn't be any adjustment on the speaker outputs. The only thing on the back of the 555 that can be adjusted is the bridging switch which should be in stereo.
It actually looks like in your picture, the switch is in the "Bridged" position. If that is the case, then it makes perfect sense as this switch disables the Left input of the amp (right input is only used when bridged). I would check that and make sure the switch is in Stereo..."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

BINGO. THATS WHAT IT WAS. I thought i put switch on stereo. It perfect now
one more question. Should i turn amp off first. Or pre ? Thanks a bunch.. -

No scratchiness at all. In balance or volume. It was the switch. Huh. Little things matter. I dusted the fins on back n must of hit it. I know for a fact i put it on stereo. I know nothing about bridging...

Your turn on order should be amp last.
Your turn off order should be amp first.
Make sure that you let it fully power down too (light turns off).
Glad you are loving the Adcom. The 555 is a fantastic amp. Nelson Pass design and so good, Adcom has kept it in their lineup even to today."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Thanks. That is a big big help there. I knew there had to be a order in on-off operation. I will learn that THANKS AGAIN..

Any time man.
I noticed right off that the slight power on/power off pop of my NAD 1020 was way amplified with the amp on hehe."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Randy, which pre to you have and what are your thoughts on it compared to your other AVRs or 2-ch receivers?
Congrat's on the new-to-you setup! -
Thanks for asking. I listened to it for about a hour before the misses got home & there is no comparison.(although receivers work nicely too). It seems the quality is more cleaner. Robust. I brought it to 10:00 or so. and sounded very good to my ear. I listened to some N Young on the Nakamishi 500 & perfect. I hope to play around some more today with it & adjust some of the buttons. I need to research unit as i didnt get a manual for it. I do not listen to music at high high volumes anymore. I find it relaxing to put it at 9 oclock and sit back & enjoy it..
