New amp on it's way to round out my 11 channel system!

I scaled things back a bit from my original plan. I was going to pick up another D-Sonic amp or possibly the Sherbourn PA 7-350 7 channel amp. But then I got to thinking about what I was trying to accomplish. I really like the Rotel RMB-1095 multi channel amp (200x5) which handles the center, surrounds & rear surrounds. My D-Sonic M2-600M mono blocks (they ain't leaving) power the mains so the only ones left were the front & rear presence speakers (presently fed off the Yamaha AVR). I must have thought about at least a dozen or more amp combinations. But it came down do brass tacks I didn't want to go thru the bother of having to sell the Rotel, recoup my funds to put towards another amp. So I just went & scored another Rotel, the RMB-1095's smaller brother the RMB-1075 multi channel amp (120x5). Since I'll only be using 4 of it's channels for the front & rear presence speakers it will fit the bill nicely. It even has the matching silver face. Now when I decide to make the move to a new processor I'm all set amp wise. Is there ever such a thing as being done?

Wondering if you'd hear a difference between the 1075 and the Yamaha?

There is such a thing. I'm done buying amps unless we buy a new house. Now, I do plan on upgrading said amp in the future, but it has found its home for a long, long time. If I ever visit NJ, your house is on the agenda. Has to be quite the movie experience.

Congrats on the new amp! Always nice to pull the trigger and put all that turmoil behind you.

My door is always open...and yes the movie experience is off the charts awesome. My friends are all amazed & they actually like to plan "movie night", they bring the flick, adult refreshments & we sit back & have a ball.

Come on Bob hitch up your wagon & let's get going!!!!! This is a rather inexpensive addition that will do the trick. How many more speakers & amps to go????

We shall see. But my plan was simply to have all amplification taken care so when I make my next purchase (not for awhile yet though) which will be an 11 channel processor I'm loaded for bear.

Can a man with 11.2 say "I'm scaling back" with a straight face?

Seriously, it's been fun watching you build that thing up. Enjoy.

Ah man you guys have it all wrong. What I was inferring to about "scaling back" was in reference to my new amp. I was going to go with a high powered amp from D-Sonic or the Sherbourn unit, but I scaled it back & went with the RMB-1075. Hell I'll never scale back on the size of my system...once you experience 11.2 there's no going back. Now I wonder how long before I'll have to go to a 14/16 channel system. I got the wall space!!!! But of course I'll have to pick up more amps.

There seems to only be a handful of prepro units out there that can do 11.1, and I don't want to have to go the AVR route since I already have power amps.

True for now but I think there will be more companies jumping in that arena. In fact Yamaha just came out with a separate processor & 11 channel amp.

Thanks Pearsall, I didn't know this about Yamaha! I was wondering if Yammie was ever going to grow a set an get in the prepro game. Can't believe Pioneer doesn't offer a prepro. I almost fell for the Marantz prepro , but I'm glad I've held off.

All I need, and all that is needed is Left and Right. The rest is just......hype. When a performer sits down to play they don't have 11.2 channels. 11.2 is concocted and purely for marketing, it's hyperbole and doesn't exist in the real world.

Again, interesting take. I guess one man's hyberbole is another man's enjoyment. I must say though that HD TV, Sporting events, Blu-Ray movies...etc.etc. never sounded so damn good. You are literally emersed in the action. Two channel listening is still of course two channels. Nothing at all wrong with being happy with only two channels if that's what you enjoy for your listening venue.

Multi-channel was intended for movies (not real, but made up fro dramatic entertainment) and sporting events, I agree 100%. I have (personally) never found any value in it for listening to music.

Different strokes for different folks....for sure.

Rock on Phil, hope to see you at PF 2013

Hey Brock, that's what's makes this hobby so great...there's plenty to go around to keep everyone happy. I'm not making any promises just yet for Polk Fest but is on my agenda. I'd love to meet with you guys again. Maybe I could bring my mono's.
