Just looking for your thoughts on this speaker, I'm auditioning a set on my CR-2020 right now.
The guy want $150 and they are in Excellent shape and sound pretty good to me.
I'm running a 2 TT's one on either side of my 2020 a Garrard GT35 and a Sony PS-T15 with Audio Technica AT95e carts so I'm just looking for a set of speakers to properly mate with my 2020.
Someone on here was saying older gear sounds better using older gear/speakers..?
Do you think these speakers are sufficient enough or maybe a set of Polk's not sure what flavour would be best..

Not a bad speaker at all, but I don't feel they are worth anywhere near $150. I picked up a pair for $5 at a yard sale and would not buy again for more than $50-60 bucks. For $150 I'd be inclined to look for a pair of Polk 7's, or KLH Model Six's, or even ADC 303's. The Yamaha's are known to be less bass heavy than some vintage Pioneer's or Kenwood's so almost any speaker with an east coast sound should pair well with them. Good luck in your search.

T-man is right. The small Advents are nice speakers but I would not pay 150 for them. I spent close to 100 for the Original Large Advents (with Walnut cabs in pretty minty condition) and I consider that to be an OK price for those. Wouldn't pay much more.

If you can get the price down that would be good. If not, certainly look for some KLH 6s or Polk Monitor 7s, you have a VERY NICE Yamaha there with good power and clean sound. A larger speaker wouldn't hurt? As far as bass, almost all vintage Yammies have a variable Loudness control which should take care of that at lower listening volumes. This control can be used as the Volume knob once you have the receiver set to the desired "sound". A nice feature!

    Enjoy!

I have a pair for sale locally and no bite at $80.
They are even refoamed with genuine 9" foam.
So $150 is way too high but nice speakers for under $100.

Agree that they are nice speakers, but for a garage or B-rig, and only at under $100.

Thank You Very Much Guys for your input..
I believe the problem is North of your Border things are just more expensive up here even used..
This guy had these speakers listed for $250:eek:
But he told me to take them home to try and of course that would not be the price, he included the stands as well and a set of 8 speaker spikes should I decide to keep them..
So I figured $150 was ok but on the weekend I'll have another talk with him..
They sound pretty good on the 2020..
and cnh I do use the Loudness like a Volume control, works well like you said..

If they have been refoamed and recapped, with the stands and spikes, $150 isn't a bad price if they are in excellent condition. Otherwise, I agree that they are overpriced.
