upgrade to lsim or rtia

I am upgrading the sound equipment in my living room(currently monitor 65t L/R and c25 center with 35b surrounds). And currently trying to decide if going with the lsim 703 L/R and 704 for the center or going with a rti A9 L/R and A6 center. For now i will keep my monitor 35b for surrounds
My room is 17x13 and my usage is 55% music 45% HT

    Don't forget about the difference in price of those rears once you find something to timbre match! rtia1 vs. another set of lsim703! I would probably go rtia line if 55/45 split but I am 95% music, had to go lsi.

    I was looking at the A9 because I have heard it has a better midrange than the A5. I'll have a nice sub so most of the base in the A9 will be a wasted.

    I was thinking more 702 for rears since I could theoretically hang them close to where the current rears are mounted. I do agree using non trimble matched rears is a myth. You can only ignore it for so long before it drives you mad.

    If you've got the money, go for the LSi. If not the RTiA's would be a nice upgrade as well.

    Some will argue the A7 has a better midrange because of it's driver complement.

    I have not seen much love for the A7 around here. Typically I see it for A5 or A9 because they have two midrange drivers.

    I think it's worth asking what you'll be using for amplification here. Those monitors are the newer models so you haven't had them long and are looking to get rid of them. What are you hoping to get out of the new speakers that your current setup is lacking? That being said, if you have the dough for the lsim's I can't really make an argument against getting them as long as your other components are up to snuff.

    I have a yamaha HTR-7065 for that room, the monitors are maybe a little muddy. But my main driving force for this upgrade is that I want to move the monitors into the family room to replace the remnants of a sony(rears and undersized center ) in the box speaker systems and the L/R front yamaha floorstanders that do not sound very good with the onkyo receiver, except maybe for jazz.

    I was pretty sure a pair of A9 would need an amp. I am not sure about the lsim.

    More headroom (current). Ability to play louder/cleaner.

    A good powerful amp will give you greater clarity at all volume levels, better bass, clearer vocals and instruments. In short a separate amp allows your speakers to operate at their full potential.

    I always recommend a 3-5 channel amp of at least 200wpc. This is enough to drive just about any speaker.

    I love my RTI-A7's and for me they were the best of both worlds. They were bigger/better than the rt600i's I had and the wife approved (key here). I have an excellent sub so the additional base the a9's bring wasn't a concern. I can definitely see how the mids may be better, but oh well. Now the sub was a surprise to the wife, but she got over it by the days end. Even on the a7's I believe and amp is required. That is my next add on.

    That about sums it up. I would budget for an amp and the speakers. If you're comfortable buying used your dollars go a lot further. Almost all accounts here will tell you that you need some serious beef for the rti's to reach their potential. Not sure about the lsim's but I'll guarantee a good quality amp will NOT make them sound worse :cool:
