We Devolved but Good

The way I see it...

We went from The Greatest Generation jitterbugging their asses off to Basie at Birdland, Roseland and the like...

To the hippie generation which sat there silently smacked out of their heads with the occasional waif getting up at The Avalon Ballroom and doing that dancing all by yourself, flowing, child of the moon crap in front of the light show...

To the mosh pit.

Wrong way.

True, but there's still hope. I just got back from giving a ride home to a young family that got stranded in a nearby city. They did everything they could to get back on there own and never once asked anybody to come pick them up. They refused to let their kids eat in my car, offered to pay for gas, and were as respectful and thankful as they could be. Unfortunately the high level of douchebaggery that passes for normal behavior these days obscures the fact that there are still good, solid, young people out there.

And for the record they were probably line dancing country music fans, being from Texas and all.

I don't know. Unlike the mosh pit, jitterbuggers held onto their partners when they threw them over their heads.

Real difficult for my young mind to determine exactly what you meant by this line. Exactly what are you trying to say here?

The human race as we know it is done. They way I hear some undisciplined kids talk back to their parents would of landed me flat on my back with a split lip from the Marine Corp ring my Dad wore on his right hand. I do remember mud sliding down a hill at a Neil Young show once, those Moshers haven't a clue.

Here's an original from Baltimore that proves mankind has no chance! The setup...it's during Preakness and there's a line of urinals that are brought in for all the drunks to use during the massive infield party at Pimlico prior to the running of the Preakness Stakes. Some genius thought it would be a great idea to climb up and run down the length of the urinals...while...drunk idiots toss half and full beer cans at them. It's been a tradition for a long time.

For a long time, I was always invited to go to the infield party for the Preakness, but always turned it down. It was NEVER my type of scene.

    Enjoy some of Baltimore's geniuses...
    No excuses!

That at one time, young people really knew how to step, looked liked they were having a pisser doing it, and did it to some class music to boot.

Would I pay money to watch what goes on in the mosh pit? No.

Would I pay to watch the dance floor at a Basie concert in the late 40's? Who do I pay?

The younger folks know knowing of what you speak George, a foreign language to them. Not dissing the younger folks either, it just is what it is. What was deemed as fun back then, well still is today I guess. The mosh pit today isn't every youngsters cup of tea, probably most I would say too. Just like back in our day, hanging and busting heads with the greasers was fun but didn't define the whole lot of the generation.

As long as fun is had, nobody is getting hurt, what the heck....who cares about the finer details.

"they " said the same thing when the Beatles and Elvis came around .....but the youth were the ones to latch onto it & go forward ..never been in a mosh pit nor do I care to but I don't look down on others for enjoying it .....and there are plenty of dance clubs out there that still enjoy jitterbugging ...

today's world, at least from my perspective, is full of so many different people .. branch out to someone that you wouldn't normally speak to ...they have a world/life that might be totally different from mine but I still find it so interesting just to hear a little part of it.. say hello to them & give them a smile .....they will, most of the time give you at least a smile back .....

Thanks for the explanation and elaborating your comment George.

This is one thread I will have to stay out of though... Must bite tongue.
