How simple are you looking for and what do you want to spend?

I have seen plans for class A per amps online before and even simple 5 watt class A amps.

When I get home I will look to see what links I still have.

I threw the idea of building a pre-amp and DAC for me down the road but I'm not sure I have enough knowledge of the micro components that would be needed or enough technical knowledge to take on such a project. I looked at it as a way to get higher end components for a fraction of the cost if I could build something. Perhaps I dont give myself enough credit.

Definitely be following where you go with this Trey.

The above listed (post #4) DIY Audio forum, has a huge number of different projects. From tubes to transistors to chip amps to class 'D' to Nelson Pass unit. A very are semi-built units, many are complete kits, others are printed circuit boards only and for the reminder you are on your own.

One rambling thread about a high-end pre-amp for-which parts are no longer available is approaching some 40,000 posts.

I've been looking at these dynaco based kits. Some are substantially advanced beyond the original Haflef designs.

If you are interested I've got an assembled diy Pass Zen balanced linestage I am considering selling. It could be upgraded with exotic parts if desired but sounds very good as is. I bought it here as needing further completion.

My owner completion thread below. Both balanced inputs and four SE inputs are now connected to selector. I just left it with one pair of balanced and SE outputs connected. It is a quiet and great sounding pre; I used it as balanced. Comes with another unused/untested PS board.

I re-furbed a Krell KSL pre with a nice built in phono and stayed with it. My Krell is manual volume too, no remote.

I built a Relaixed 2 preamp. Its remote controlled and balanced output only. It is very clean and pure sounding. About $400 for the kit not including the case.
