Back into the rat race

Tomorrow, my nearly 9 months of unemployment comes to an end as I have accepted a new position at a highline dealership a half hour drive from home. I will also begin school for an entirely new career this fall so I have something to fall back on going forward. It has been a good sebatical, giving me the time needed to get our home up and running, but the time has come to get back to work.

    I took 11 months off after leaving a job I loved filled with people I hated.
    The sabbatical spoiled me for other positions as I came to realize that I didn't need to have a 9-5 monday-friday job to survive and be happy.

    That said, welcome back to the rat race. Just remember, unless you're the lead rat, the view never changes.

    Good luck with the new job John I could tell by our phone conversation a few weeks back you were antsy to get back to work.

    Now get to spending it to stimulate our economy:razz:

    Congrats! We've all been there at some point in our lives/careers, or if not yet perhaps will be some day.

    New Career? Good Luck with that, but it is a little rough trying to train or study for a new career in middle age these days, especially in a nation that is shedding REAL jobs like a balding 20 something?

    Very true CNH, by all estimates we've lost 9 million jobs since the crash. That's 9 million that are not coming back. Add to that with the implementation of the Affordable care act....which is anything but....we have in essence taken 40 hour a week jobs and turned them into 30 hours a week. Not all mind you, but a lot. All things considered, I'd say the middle class has taken a stick in the eye.

    I myself am having a hard time finding work. The vast majority of jobs available are 8-10 bucks an hour. Even some of those jobs I am told politely that I'm too old. Almost none are full time, and a lot of others are under the radar jobs....which doesn't bother me really, work is work. Maybe I'll start my own business....sell Polk audio calendars with us naked men of Polk Audio on the pages. John may want the cover too sitting on top of those mono's butt arse naked.
