Audio music speakers ONLY

I used to have a surround sound system, but it wasn't doing it for me. So, I went back to a 2 channel system for my music enjoyment.
I am trying to find speakers to listen to music only. I have a pair Polk S10 speakers nor, they do a pretty "fair" job.
All I can find are speakers that are made for surround sound systems.

Any suggestions out there to help me?

Lots of people here are willing to help you but they will want to know what your budget for the speakers are, what kind of music you like, the room dimensions, and probably what AVR or amp you will be driving them with. Once you tell them how much, they will be more than happy to spend your money for you :)

Not sure where you've been looking, but there are tons of speakers made for 2 channel music these days. From Polk, look at the LSiM series.

Amp, I have a Yamaha Ax596, with an equalizer, CD player and a turntable and a pair Polk S10 speakers hooked up.

    Steven72555,

Which surround system did you have? What speaker peaked your interest over these last few years?

I don't have a surround system anymore. The music sound was quite sub-par.
I really want to hear Klipsch or some more Polks.
There are no non-HT stores around the Cleveland area.

So, by answering "in my dreams only", you still did not answer the question. We need to know if you can afford $200 speakers or $2000 speakers. Also what else are you using in your system to power it, etc etc.

Yup. Hang around awhile and plan on buying new or pre-owned Polk loudspeakers. You'll see.

    Steven72555,

There is Audio craft and Sound & Vision. I'm not sure how close they are to your location. You could make a road trip out of it by taking the missus to some nice restaurant in the area.

How many here can afford $2000 speakers?
I am not rich, nor am I poor..
2000 for speakers? NO WAY. Up to 3-400 perhaps.
I listed what I have "powering" my system.

Not to be mean, but a fair amount of people here can.

For your budget I would say LSi9 bookies.

Buy some used LSi15s. Even new, they were only $1600, I believe. I know I had to think twice before buying them.

No, we are here to help.

I was just stating that there are many people who can afford very high end speakers so modest might be $200 or $2,000 depending on one's viewpoint.

    My gear isn't that much.

The members here are happy to help. Are you open to the used market? I asked about your previous surround system to get a frame of reference. How big is the space you are trying to fill? How far back do you sit from the speakers you have now?

Good recommendation. I love my 15's. I believe they run $500-$700 used now. Although, not sure if his amp would do them justice.

I am very open to the used market, it seems that most manufactures and retailers are geared for the HT side of audio, but I am not.
I sit about 4-6 feet back from the speakers.

Look for some bargains on used speakers in the CP flea market. I bought a pair of SDA-2B speakers from a great member here for $200.00. They sound awesome.

    Steven72555,

There appears to be a few different polk models on craig's list in cleveland. There is even a SDA 1B for $300. The more experienced members can provide you with the pros and cons of the various older speaker lines.

Members have to have 100 posts before they can view the flea market.

We can still see the title of thread. Clicking on thread starters name and then using the recent post or all post function is a round about way to see list prices.

Fry's sells RTi8 speakers for 150 evey once in a while. The Onkyo 609 has 100 wats per channel and will drive them just fine and will drive a surrond system. ($300 on sale) Most Polk people will suggest you get a receiver with pre outs so that you can upgrade your system. The 609 does not have pre outs.

We can also help you with value speakers but you really need to let us know your budget range. The responses have been very reasonable.

Steven, all of us here started our journey on a shoestring budget and could only dream of owning better equipment we saw in magazines like Stereo review or Hi-Fi etc... I'm nearing 60 and still on a budget and dreaming of better equipment, lol.

I would think that with his current Yammy some LSi9's would fit the bill quite nicely, being that he sits fairly close. Certainly something bookshelf.

Bookshelf speakers don't quite have the sound range that fulfills.

Look for some used Polk's or Advents or some Acoustic Research. A decent pair of bookshelf's would surprise you. I have a pair of AR 18 bookies that not only sound great but can get as loud as the big boys and still sound good.

Well Steve, your going to get suggestions all over the map. You still haven't thrown out a budget either or said if any other gear will get replaced. If you like big speakers and your dead set on keeping that AVR, you need efficient 8 ohm floorstanders so make that your first priority when looking. Anything else will be grossly underpowered with that AVR.
