I have the opportunity to buy a Sony DVP S9000ES for $150. I did some research and its seems to be a great player. Any thoughts on it? Anyone have or used one before?

If you like Sony's house sound it'll be right up your alley.

The S9000ES was known for not playing CD-R's and having trouble defaulting to the SACD layer on some hybrid SACD's or not recognizing the SACD layer at all. Mine had that those problems, but just on a few discs. Apart from that, it's a very impressive feeling piece of equipment. Heavy copper chassis. It was one of the first SACD players, but primarily designed to be a DVD player. Like a lot of first generation Sony gear, it was massively overbuilt by Sony back when it came out and was popular for being modified at different levels. You may be able to do better on the price, but not by all that much depending on condition. You'd want to ask about any problems with the disc transport before buying or you may end up with an unusable heavy piece of junk.

Seems like maybe I ought to save a little more and get something a little newer.

I am not familiar with the term veiled, anyone care to explain?

They are known for C13 error which means that you'll need whole new transport and laser.....and it will happen at a blink of an eye....laser and transport will set you back 250.+

    tread lightly.

I'm glad I posted here, everything I had read prior didn't mention any issues like this.

I'm going to wait it out and try to find a decent Oppo. Buy once cry once.

    Thanks guys.

What tony said. But as Jesse points out, above, the Sony house sound is NOT veiled!
