Basics (set up HT system)

Ok, I've moved on from what to buy to how to make it sing. I read a post that was a summary of how to set up a home theatre system. I'm looking to resolve a couple of problems that should be listed there, i.e. hooking up the sub, and getting sound from the TV through the receiver. (I think on the latter I'm missing something in the setup, but...???)

Does anyone know where the basic HT set up post is? I can't find it doing a search...

Thanks. Good info and again each time I read something I learn a little more. However my specific problem is I can't get sound from the TV to play through the mains, and I think I've tried every RCA connection combo with the TV and receiver. I think it's something in set up but I'm not getting anywhere there. I'm getting just a bit nuts about this...

Are you talking about the signal from an over the air broadcast, cable, or DSS? Can you list the outputs that you have on the back of the TV.

Audio out L/R from tv to reciever audio in L/R (make sure reciever is set to analog. It's that easy...........

On some TV's you need to turn off the internal speakers to send a signal to the externals. Just a thought.........
