RT 2000i looks like I may have blown one side???

Posted in speakers as well. I think the one side is blown. I still get sound, just real low?? Looks pushed in?? No clue on how it happened. Is there any hope for this??

    Why make a thread in two different areas of the forum???

    Anyways...looks like it was over driven and the coil is no longer in its gap in the magnet. There is a more technical term for that but I can not think of it at the moment! lol

    I would imagine the best way to go is replace the driver. The voice coil is probably toast now. Looks like the cone is pushed out to me, not in as you mentioned in the first post.

    Does Polk Audio perform these repairs??

    That will be your first place for help, give them a call on Monday at: 1-800-377-7655 or via email to: polkcs@polkaudio.com. In al likelihood the driver will have to be replaced.

    Update, I got the new speaker from Polk tonight, hooked it up and nothing?? Not sure what to do now, so I guess I'll be waiting to talk with Tech support....not til Monday?? Bummer, and sure hope it can be fixed. One thing for sure, I did need the speaker they sent me as the old one (pictured here) was blown and I can still smell the smell from that!:lol: Maybe someone here will know what has happened, and better yet, a way to fix it?? Thanks either way, and fingers crossed.

    Thanks pepster, what i did do is a test from the receiver called speaker calibration and when it came to the right side, only thing to be heard was the hissing from the tweet?? Same as when the blown driver was tested??

    Only reason I mentioned that was because I was dumb enough to over look that fact once, and spent 3 hours pondering what could be wrong.:lol:

    Prolly lost a cap with the original blowing of the woofer.
    To check you can take the crossover out of the other speaker and put it in the bad one, and try it.

    I priced some replacement tweeters for the 2000's yesterday for a buddy, he needs 3 ($88.50/ea + shipping!)!:eek: Yowzer!

    If you cooked the drivers you may very well have killed some parts in the crossover too. Time to get the DMM out and start checking parts.

    Not sure what the DMM means and doubt I have the brains to tell what's what under the hood if I get there. I know it's not the 2 lower woofers, as they work great, so I'll just have to wait and speak with a tech on Monday to see if they can walk me through a solution.

    DMM equals Digital Multi Meter.

    If you pull the crossover you may very well see something burnt or a swollen cap etc.
