I have two Polk Monitor 10-B's with cabinets that were recently damaged in some minor flooding we had in our basement. The speakers weren't hooked up at the time so while the cabinets are warped and crappy the internal electronics should be fine. The speakers were on the floor and the water was 3-4" deep.

I wanted to hold onto these for posterity's sake, as they were my first Polks and first serious speaker. Purchased c. 1987 in Tampa, FL, and they followed me to DC, Virginia, Colorado, Virginia again and finally out here to Central IL.

Free for you to pick up in Champaign, IL.

Thanks.

That's a very nice offer stretchl. The cabinets look beyond fixing to me. I'd look for a pair of donor cabinets or you could part out the components for probably around $125.

Enders if you can work it out to get these, I have some cabinets that are rough but at least airtight. They were painted black and need stripped and redone in veneer or vinyl. I'll let you have them if we get together again on one of your TN trips. Mine were Peerless models though.

The cabinets are definitely beyond repair. Plus they're moldy. :(

No, Pit. I've never advertised these anywhere. Wanted to keep them for posterity but due to the water damage and mold I'm now either giving them away or chopping them up for firewood.

Thanks for the offer Pit and Travis, but did some more talking to my brother about these and am going to pass on these. He simply doesn't have space in his dorm apartment (he shares with 4 other guys) for them and unlike me cares little for music besides his ipod, headphones and computer speakers.

I was going to try to get him more into decent sound quality but at this point in his life he simply doesnt have the room for it. Maybe when he graduates.

    Strechl, thanks for the possibility.

Where are all you Ill. DIYers? I KNOW you're out there. Those guys who got As in Shop class while I slept or goofed around unable to take those classes seriously? With your tool belts, table saws, drills and bits, soldering stations, horses and...and...and...those incredible GUY workshops that look like a small FACTORY. You KNOW who you are. You work on your cars, build furniture, decks, repair your own roof, plumbing and heating systems--could be an independent contractor if you wanted. There isn't ANYTHING that you've ever seen "you" couldn't fix that wouldn't cost me at least $1000-20,000+ to repair!

Build that cabinet, line it with black hole, sand the outside and give it an absolutely "gorgeous" finish. Redo those "crossovers", "inductors" (and conductors, abductors, etc.?), and seal her up with the gasket/sealant of your choice and Larry's rings. Then take those absolutley "beautiful" pics and post them HERE and make us shop losers cringe and slink away in embarrassment! You know the drill? (pun?).

Here is "your" opportunity to shine! And also "save" a great pair of speakers!

I built a new set of cabinets for a similarly damaged pair of Monitor 7's. It's not that difficult to replicate the cabinets. The way the front baffle locks into the cabinet sides is a bit tedious to make the cuts, but it can all be done with a table saw.

Zltful was going to get back to me but I've not heard anything. Being that he's 7 hours away I suspect he'll reconsider.

Yeah gonna have to pass stretch. Thanks though. $120 round trip gas cost is more than worth it to me but the wife doesn't agree. Plus she gets all "You should buy what you really want, not what you sort of want that you would have to fix..." And I can't really fault that logic. Hehe.
