Ever see a UFO?
Long story short.
Here in Arkansas, evidently there are people down south seeing Big Foots roaming around.
I know a guy that is into writing the stories down "according to the eyewitnesses".
Well, lastnight he relayed a story of a BF sighting in Pocahontas Arkansas:rolleyes: (whatever).
I told him I am going to visit my 93 year old grandmother today who was born and raised in Pocahontas, and lived there for 53 year, I will ask her if she remembers any stories from that time period (1920-1973).
She moved back to Arkansas in the late '90's.
For 93 she is still pretty sharp, and does crossword puzzles, and even drives a block or two to the grocery store occasionally (which I keep preaching, she should not do).
So I got to her house early this morning.
Out of the clear blue, I dropped the Big Foot bomb on her, keep in mind, I have never asked her such a stupid question.
She gives me this look, like I just ate her favorite recliner.
So much so, I had to ask her if she knew what a Big Foot was?
Again, the same dumbfounded look, I LOL'd, but she said...... "well..yeah"!
She remember ZERO stories about Big Foot from growing up in that area (imagine that).
But then, proceeds to tell me a story, about a 5 minute UFO encounter in 1929-1930 with 30-40 other witnesses at a swimming hole, in broad daylight.
A very remarkable story to say the least, which I am dictating now to my hard drive for my memories if nothing else.
I never mentioned UFO's to her, she just started telling me the story, and it was the first time she had ever shared it with me.
Can't say I am a believer in either, but find some of the stories interesting, and this one especially, considering she is the most honest human being I have ever known, and the fact, I would never dispute anything she told me.
I have no reason to, and she has no reason to make it up.
Kinda of a "chilling" story, a lot of people scared, and in disbelief as to what they were actually seeing that day.
I am going to research and see if I cannot find some additional info on it, maybe a news article, ect.
But as an interesting side note, I am sure a lot of those "other witnesses" have shared the same story with their families.
So you ever see a UFO?
Care to share a small description of the event?

I am not a believer either, but this was interesting as are alot of the stories people write about the unexplained.
That said, fictional books outsell non-fiction, and alot of the stuff written about this is a VERY GOOD read indeed.
And I LOVE UFO!

1929-1930?
And it has stuck in her mind all these years?
Told the story very convincingly, and the only time she shared it with me, the 49 years I have known her.
This is probably the only UFO story I believe.
That said, there is nothing wrong with fictional literary work, as I am sure you have read a book of such, and I KNOW you have seen a movie based on such!Testing

I have a problem with that.

Yea I'm right there with you. With the outdoor game camera's so prolific all over by now we would of seen one on camera....unless they have infrared vision capabilities that allows them to see the light beam..... -
Great story pep and I believe your Grandma still thinks she saw a UFO. And i'm with ya a 100% on other intelligent life in the Universe being able to travel in space. Just don't think they have been here.

Scientists estimate that there are perhaps 100 Billion stars in our own galaxy with planets capable of supporting life. if 1/10th of one percent have intelligent life on them, and 1/10th of one percent of those are smarter than us the numbers start getting smaller, but certainly not impossible.
I have seen a few strange things in the skies (donuts on a rope, google it and you will understand), but nothing worthy of close scrutiny. I do believe they are out there, but at the moment we are likely too stupid for them to care much about us.The Gear... Well if one thinks that we are the only living creatures on a planet in this endless sea of stars, is not thinking outside the box.
Not saying I believe in UFO's, but the chances of other life somewhere beyond this little rock we live on, IMO is very possible.
Can there be UFO's? maybe, maybe not. One thing is for sure I doubt we will know in our lifetime.. -
A funny example of the story she told me.
It was her and her 8 brothers and sisters, and their parents.
She said they were not religious, and hardly ever went to church.
The first thing out of her fathers mouth after the UFO encounter (after alot of people were already leaving) was:
"Get in the car, we are going to church", and they did!
She remember the smallest detail like the church pews being wet (from swimming) when the service was over.
Very detailed story from a 93 year old, and really a good read.
I kicked myself in the arse for not taking a digital recorder with me when she recalled the story to me.
But then again I was just going to ask her about any Big Foot stories she might remember from that time, and was never expecting a UFO story.
I have most of it, typed up.Testing

Agreed. Space is just too big a space to have nothing else in it. After all, even on our own little rock, people way back didn't believe in a land across the big ocean with life and animals never seen before.... and the world was flat. Even today, we are still discovering things on our rock. It's an easy belief that some life can hide right here under our noses, which it has. It's even easier to think life can hide much easier in an area the size of a galaxy.
For me personally, never seen one that I would clearly state was a UFO. Seen some strange stuff in my days however, but I'm gonna have to contribute that to bad weed.HT SYSTEM-

Again, it makes me curious personally, whether or not a Big Foot is good eating (I'm sure the smaller ones are)?
I am thinking marinaded here, on the grill.
Because I can assure you if I see one, you will see me on the news, naturally "flipping off the world" as I am prolly "RICH" as a result of harvesting my first Big Foot!

When you're done typing up what you remember, Pepster, get your digital video recorder and make another visit to your Grandma. Make an audio/video recording of her telling her story again.
Did she see a UFO ?
Of course.
She (and others) saw an object. No disputing that.
The object she (and others) saw was in the air. She (and others) had to look upwards to see it.
The means/methods of how that object was above them is unknown. Hovering/Floating/Propelled ? Unknown.
So it was definitely an Unidentified ("WTH is that ?") Flying (ie, not suspended by mechanical means) Object ("We're not hallucinating. It's SOMETHING").
So make that recording. That's not a suggestion. That's an order.Sal Palooza -
There is no doubt that there must be some form(s) of intelligent life out there. Whether or not they have been to earth or care about Humans is an entirely different question. I believe the Sci-fi writer, Stanislaw Lem, best put it when he argued that it is quite possible that we would not necessarily "recognize" these others as "intelligent" let alone actually be able to communicate with them. Their evolutionary trajectory may be so different from ours so as to be incommensurate with what we identify as human intelligence.
A simple example can be seen on earth in the difficulty we encounter with Cetaceans (whales, dolphins, etc.). After decades of research into how they communicate with each other we're still fairly clueless about how to cross the bridge between their WORLD and OURS?

Never seen a bigfoot, and am not a believer in them personally.
UFO's on the other hand, I have seen some things that were inexplicable. Most were simply "lights in the sky". One example, my older brother and I were backpacking in Sequoia National Park about 13 years ago. It was dark (about 9:00 P.M.) and we were standing up and looking at the stars. We were both fully awake, with no drugs, alcohol or anything else affecting us. I don't remember who spotted it, but one of us spotted what looked to be a satellite. That is, it was as bright as the "average" star in the sky, and the satellites you see going accross the sky. We were both staring at it for about 40 seconds and it reached just about straight up in the sky (straight above our heads). Seems normal, right? Then, the light stopped where it was dead in it's tracks and sat there for about 25 seconds. Then, it started moving again in a direction about 60 degrees from the direction it was previously moving. It eventually went below the horizon and we didn't see it again.
It certainly wasn't a "shooting star" or anything "natural". There's no way this light could move, stop for 25 seconds and then start moving again in a 60 degree angle from it's previous direction if it was something natural. Again, both my brother and I saw this. I don't know what it was, but it was interesting.
Also, in the Bible it talks about circular flying objects (wheels) with the color of highly polished bronze (amber in english) that came to earth, landed and God disembarked from one. It's Ezekiel chapter 1 for reference. It's an interesting read........
I have seen a few other things, but I've written enough as it is.
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Well Greg, I have had 2 encounters myself.
Again you might remind yourself, we are in the "grouped" accounts of people seeing such things.
I am 49 and have only had 2 experiences,
1 was last year, had to be at work at 5:00 am.
Driving down the interstate, on the way to work, something shot across the sky, so fast you could barely keep your eye on it.
Yet it lite up the whole sky like it was daylight.
The second "encounter" I had was about 15 years ago, fishing with 2 friends on a lake high in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.
We were trying to decide who could tell from the stars which way was North.
Then we all saw an object that was MASSIVE, EXTREMELY HIGH in the atmosphere that was traveling at such a high rate, you could barely track it with your eye, even though we all saw it, and commented.
That last one could have been a man made object, but I doubt it considering its size, and speed.
Not sure what 35k/mph for man made space junk looks like, but this was LARGE and traveling as fast as you could keep you eye on.
I'm in the middle of no where, so my stars look different than most.
Much better detail, like wood fiber with alien crystal cru........oh never mind you get the point.
Again, not sure what either was, but it freaked me, and a couple of buddies of mine out as to the to the speed?
The eye is pretty quick.
In these instances, they were in fact closer than "quicker than the eye".
The second instance was easier to follow, compared to the first instance mentioned.Testing

I try to believe that they are not real but just have some feeling that they are real. I get pretty freaked out actually of the thought of them. About 11 years ago I was on my way back from a Boy Scout camping trip. It was around 7 at night traveling down a country road. Our whole troop suddenly saw a fast moving object off above the tree line past the field. It acted very swiftly throughout the sky, changing multiple colors rapidly. We watched it for a good 30 seconds. Once we traveled into a wooded area and back out of it 45 seconds later. It was gone. Never knew what it was.HT setup

I have definitely seen one. My father(was in the Air Force), my sister, and I all saw it. My grandfather was a pilot, dad was in the Air Force as mentioned earlier, one of my uncles is an aeronautical engineer for Boeing, two of my cousins are pilots, I grew up wanting to be a pilot. I could go on and on, but my point is my family and I knew aircraft. This was unlike anything any of us has seen. If anybody wants to know more about it, PM me and I'll tell you. I can't say for sure wether what we saw was man-made or not, what I can say is it did not move or fly like any type of aircraft I am aware off and my family and I watched it for at least 20 minutes. I'm getting chills just thinking about this.

When I was only about 8 yrs. old give or take a bit, so about 1960, I walked out of my house on a summer evening about 10PM and found a bunch of my neighbors standing on the sidewalks and even in the street, staring up in the sky. I asked one of them what they are doing and he said "watching the UFO's" or possibly he said the flying saucers, don't remember for sure.
I looked into the sky where he pointed and saw about 6 objects only about the apparent size of distant stars and a little brighter than them. They were moving about in patterns, kind of "dancing" around each other, then suddenly one would zoom out of sight faster than we could follow, only to return again. Some more lights added to the group and they continued to circle around.
They were far too far away to see any detail, just bright pinpoints that danced about. Can't remember how long we watched them but it seems like for 10 mins. or more then they just zoomed away all at once.
The coolest thing I ever saw though was when I was about 15, I saw a meteor streaking through the sky at mid-day, it was low enough to be streaking over and under some cumulus type clouds and it threw off a bunch of different colors. My cousin and I thought at first that it was a roman candle because it was so colorful and it was close to July 4th, but we both quickly realized it was way too big and high for that. I think when I told my mother about it, she checked the local paper the next day and it was reported for several miles around us. -

About half a dozen years ago, I was having an unauthorized smoke break at my 2nd job. About 11 pm, standing on a deck that looked out to the Missouri River. The sky was generally clear, some clouds in the distance.
About a mile out, half way across the river, and about 500 to 1000 feet vertical, I got to observe some "ring lightning".
Here's a pic off the internet that shows what is called "ring lightning"
The ring lightning in that stock photo isn't quite what I saw.
In the stock photo, the "ring" was apparently created from two different lighting bolts. Difference in potential, path of least resistance, atmospheric conditions between the bolts, etc seemed to created dual bolts that formed a "ring" of sorts.
The edges of the "ring" are somewhat ragged in areas, somewhat smooth in others. Mini bolts can be seen coming off the ring.
The "ring lightning" I saw was different.
Visually it appeared to be a perfect circle.
No ground-to-earth bolts or cloud-to-cloud bolts. No apparent source for the ring.
The edge of the solid ring had a well defined, sawtooth effect, completely around the entire ring.
The ring appeared in its entirety, lasted approximately 10 seconds, then disappeared in its entirety.
I'm a firm believer in "What is, is and What ain't, ain't".
I mention that because I have no idea what it was that we saw. The appearance of ring lightning, to be sure.
But .... how ? And why such a perfect circle, with a well defined saw-toothed edge ?
Lightning has an extremely high temperature that rapidly heats up the atmosphere around it. Yet this ring held its shape for 10 seconds, with no distortion.
After 10 seconds, it didn't "dissipate", it just .... went out.Sal Palooza
