I have a 35F trailer for sale on Kijijji and someone from Texas area code 512 has been texting me and wants to buy it right now for my asking price of $20K
he wants my e-mail so he can deposit 20K into my PayPal acct, First off does PayPal allow that big a transaction?
Is this guy scamming me?
he says his shipper will come tonight to pick it up, but I told him it's 90min away on a camp site he said that's fine..
and he's not even asking for lien papers or anything..
Does this sound right?
It does not to me..
but I'm new to this so I'm not sure..

Not sure I would do it Jay.
Why would he risk it, no papers, no assurance you are for real?
Yet he is going to send you $20k?

I don't think you can send that much with Paypal, so it should really be reconsidered.

Call PayPal, I have in the past, and a human being actually discusses the matter with you.
They also offer an "online chat" in real time with Paypal employees on their websight.
Their number is on their websight.

    Scam, scam.......

Now he has your phone #, all that is left is your name, address and paypal info.

No Paypal. DON'T DO IT!!! CASH only on this, but quite honestly, I think I'd forget this deal all together. It just does not sound right at all. If you know any law enforcement types, talk to them and give them any info you have on this guy. Just my 2 cents.

512 and 737 are North American telephone area codes serving central Texas, currently for telephones in and near Austin.

Um, Doug, do you have an accent?

I wonder if someone from outside the US can actually buy a phone card for example, thru the mail, to phone someone in the US, and it shows on caller id as a US area code?

this is the phone # he's using 1-512-765-4562
I called PayPal and they said nothing can happen if I just give him my e-mail, I mean Technically he can just use anyone's e-mail to pull a scam correct?
I told him the money has to clear before he can have trailer, if he deposits money in and I take it out without issue then he can have it..
I don't know the reason I really need to sell this trailer as it was my fathers, who passed away June 4 and the bank is controlling the $ for it until I pay them..

I smell a scam!! Steer clear from this guy. I'd call email PayPal just to double check what their policy is on large money transfers.
Just like some of the other CP members are saying... Local sale and cash only! That's the only way to go!!! Good luck!!

Did Paypal happen to mention to you, that unless you have a VERY UPGRADED account with them, that you cannot draw anything near that amount out from paypal, I have been with them for 15 years and never upgraded and can only draw out $500/month.
I'm not sure you can accept that much either.
Not to mention, he can dispute the transaction, and they will freeze your account.
There is a VERY LARGE list of reasons not to do it.

    Paypal is too risky.
Local sale, cash only would be the way to go.

I don't feel like researching the subject, but for example, a family member bought a phone in the US, with a US number/plan, and mailed it to a scammer family member in Jamaica for instance.

When that scammer made international calls from that phone (which they could), it would show up as being a US number, would it not?

    Certified Check

Good, that way if you receive it you can tear it up, because that ain't much better my friend.

You would have to get your bank to research that check, and it would take some time, actually until it clears (2 weeks or longer), even before it is 100% guaranteed legit.

Certified check isn't good either. How do you know it's real and not faked? For that money, you and he can walk into his bank (assuming it's local), and have the teller make the bank check right there in front of you. Then the teller hands it directly to you. The guy never touches it. He could also write you a personal check, but wait 2-3 weeks or whatever it takes for it to clear. There are other options too (escrow service), but these are probably good enough. If he doesn't want to play along then simply say no.

BTW, when he comes over to your house, don't let him in. Also, you may want to ask for ID before you deal with him. Take a photo of it. If he complains tell him it's for both of your protection. If he gives you a hassle, then tell him to have a good day and leave.

    Jay, this is a scam.
    100 %, Certifiable, Die-In-The-Wool, Guaranteed Grade A+++, No-Doubt-About-It Scam.

Written in Stone. ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT.

I know I sound like I'm beating a dead horse here but it kind of sounds a little like you still have some sort of hope that there is a way to make this transaction work.
IT CAN NOT BE DONE. YOU WILL GET FUGGED.

The only reason to keep in touch with this "buyer" would be that you're working with the RCMP to nab this guy.
Well, the other reason would be that you're wanting to get ripped off, but that's not the case here.

You should have jacked with him and tried to get $$ out of him. I used to do that with telemarketers all the time. I'd get them all pumped up and tell them to give me their best plan and then go in for the kill at the end. Get personal with them and tell them they seem like an old friend to you. Tell them things like your wife ran off with a TV preacher and you had to file chapter 11 and if they could just lend you a few bucks to get you over the hump. I talked to a gal from Jamaica trying to convince her to let me move in with her when it was cold here.
You have to turn the tables on these scammers!
