Polk 6000 soundbar sub idea?

So I scored a 6000 soundbar and really love how it sounds for my main room but the sub, well it leaves a lot to be desired. I can't adjust the crossover unfortunately but can I swap the driver to a better one (like some do on the LSi15's)? If not, how about finding an efficient driver, build a new cabinet and flush in the amp on the back? Eh, might be crazy but cool too! Thoughts, concerns, am I missing anything?
