SRS 2.3 (I think) on ebay

I just noticed that there is a nice-looking pair of Polk SDA SRS speakers on ebay.
They were just listed yesterday and are located in CT.
I tried to post the link here but had trouble copying and pasting the link and could not do so.
The speakers look to be SRS 2.3s but I am not positive about that.
Can someone verify the model?
If they are 2.3s (and not 2.3Tls), what is the difference between the 2.3s and the 2.3TLs.
How do the pair on ebay look?
What would be a decent price to pay for those?
They are located only about a 4 hour drive from me and, although I do not need any more speakers, the SRS 2.3s seem to be a rare and desirable model and, if the price is right, I may consider it.
They look to be big speakers too so I guess a truck would be needed to pick them up.
I'd appreciate any advice about the SRS speakers on ebay.
I also wanted to make others aware of them in case anyone else is interested in bidding as well.
I do not know if I will bid but they sure do look tempting.
Thanks.

Are these what you are asking about?
http://providence.craigslist.org/ele/3925519913.html
Those were the only SDA type speakers that I could find searching all of CT.
Just copy and paste the address from your destination bar to let us know what you are talking about. -
The OP stated eBay, not CL. They are listed as an auction and current price is $330 with almost 9 days to go. They do look in good shape to me. I have no experience w the 2.3's so I cannot comment further about them.SDA SRS modded: Xovrd, de-polyed, inductorized, interconnectorized, re-posted, dynamited, RDOd, spiked, gasketed, ringed (Larry's), and grill cloth blinged! Done this on my own? Not a chance. Thanks to Raife and all who forged easy to follow upgrades. At least a 100% improvement in sound and my personal listening pleasure! :cheesygrin:Pass XP-10 preamp, Parasound A21 amp, Pioneer Elite DV-58AV (Ric Shultz modded), Audioquest Sky IC's, No longer need my Sunfire sub after mods...

The donut drivers are active. The "donut" material is there for damping.
The seller is a bit light on the weight, as they're 140lbs each IIRC. Not sure what the other differences are, but since they're no reserve you might be able to get them for a really good price."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
wait a minute it is my understanding that they are small passives no voice coil....

According to the schematics they are MW's, 6513's it looks like."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Thanks for all of the comments.
What would be a decent price to pay for these? Of course a tweeter upgrade (from the stock SL2000 to RDO-194 tweeters) would be needed right away, with some other mods down the road.
dcoil and pitdogg2, yes those are the ones on ebay.
Thanks for confirming that they are SRS 2.3s. I thought so but wanted to make sure.
drumminman, I also thought the owner underestimated the weight. I checked the SDA Handbook on this site and it lists the weight for each SRS 2.3 cabinet at 155lbs! So these are some big and heavy speakers! They weigh almost double what my SDA 2B TL speakers weigh. I fit my SDA 2B TLs in my Toyota Camry when I got them back in January but there is no way I would be able to fit the SRS 2.3s in the Camry. I'd have to rent a truck for these big boys.
I will monitor the bidding (it is currently at $355) and see where the bidding is at in 8 more days.
Thanks again. -

I will be watching them also. They look real good $800 would not be too much if they are excellent.
But I do see one dust cap pushed in and he said ?"wear"? at the top of one so maybe $650.
Also "huge" woofer, he doesn't know much about these.
So some drivers could be out, since he doesn't know a passive from active.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

PolkieMan, thanks for the info. I also noticed that about the dust cap being pushed in.
What does that mean? Is it an issue or just cosmetic? I wonder how that happened.
And I also wonder what kind of wear is to the top of one cabinet as there are no pics of that.
Thanks again. -
Well it could have been he was just moving it around and did that (the dustcap).
It can be fixed sometimes with just a piece of tape to pull it out.
I do like the fact they are inside a house rather than the patio or garage as I see sometimes.
Lots of questions is he the original owner and get a picture of the damaged top.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

The pushed in dustcap doesn't mean there's a problem necessarily. Would need to listen to the speaks to verify though.
As someone has stated it could be an easy fix if it's only cosmetic."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
Even if the woofer is bad, replacements are not that difficult to come up with. 2.3's are special and fairly rare so I'd not opt out based on a little cosmetic issue.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

I contacted the Seller by e-mail and here is what he told me:
He is the 3rd owner. He said he had not noticed the pushed-in dust cap and thanked me for pointing it out to him (it is hard not to notice even in a pic so I am not sure how he did not notice it). He said that it did not affect the sound at all and that all drivers work fine. I asked him to send a pic of the wear to top of one of the cabinets. And he admitted he didn't know how much the speakers weighed when I pointed out to him that he had grossly underestimated the weight of the speakers and informed him that each cabinet weighs about 150lbs and not the 75-90lbs he had stated in his ad. -
Unlike the smaller SDA's which are glued the end caps are bolted to the cabinets so you can remove them to refinish.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

for what its worth, I grew up listening to that model and think they are great, if you have the room for them. They don't show up too often around here, I drove all the way to CT from Central NY to get a pair of 1.2TL's and it was worth every mile.
The 2.3's are no slouch but I wouldn't pay more than $700 for them personally, unless they were already modded.
To the OP, good luck and let us know what you end up doing... -
All that I can say is I'm very happy with mine.. sda srs 2.3 (sl2000 and donut drivers). they seem to be sounding better and better the more I listen.
I paid 700 US for the same model about a week ago... have 0 regrets and am going to be selling off a huge amount of my other speakers because these sound just right.
I wish I found them 4 years ago before I went vintage crazy. -
Wait till you recap them they really shine. I bought 2.3tls in 1990 new. When I went with the 198's and the recap last year they are better than when they were new. Remember those caps are old and were not the best quality anyway. All that I can say is I'm very happy with mine.. sda srs 2.3 (sl2000 and donut drivers). they seem to be sounding better and better the more I listen.

Can't wait until I do the upgrades...
Are the RDO 198 basically the same as the RDO 194 other than they are just meant to replace the different tweeters Sl 3000 and SL 2000.
Would I be better off to modify my crossover so that I could use the 198.
With pushed in dust caps I've used.... the vacuum very carefully. I usually tape a paper towel core to the vacuum end to be extra gentle. -

The 198's are better but......
Yes you should replace them with what is the correct replacement.
The 194's have two lugs the same size one marked red, the 198's on lug is narrow.
Now there is a "TL" optional upgrade (4.1 TL Mod) for certain models, Sda CRS+ and Sda 2B .
I think Mike Reeter used 198's on SDA SRS but there is some disagreement as to whether it is correct.

Mike can answer those TL exception questions, he is very knowledgeable!
Please download and read the SDA Handbook and also Reference the Gimpod / Vr3 sites.
