I would have loved to hear the music!

as it were, I was fishing Saturday, wife caught a 30 pound bull dolphin, one of those special fishing days of beauty on the water. Did you see the green flash at sunset on Friday night? A rare moment, and I got on my camera phone.

Our life isn't so laid back by choice as it is just a natural phenomena. After a while you realize there is no trying to get somewhere because you are already here, and there is no sense in changing anyone because not much is going to change. I love my town.

you guys give me a heads up when coming this way, really! I know the bartenders, a lot of the local musicians like Raven, bubba lowtones, caffeine carl, robert albury, and so on.

there was a guy playing drums with earphunk at the parrot who looked just like this incredible drummer I saw playing in with a jazz band in new orleans. I said to my wife, that's either him or he must know who he is. The guy said it wasn't him but started laughing and said he knew who it was because people confuse him all the time with this other drummer. there is a good new orleans to key west connection music wise.

Key west is a meet people and have fun town. The best part for locals is we don't have to go anywhere, the cool fun people come down here and have agreat time. It's like yall are showing us around having a great time.

Glad you had a great time, give me a heads up next time! I work in the Truman Annex and can walk over pretty much to any bar in the area within minutes.

ha ha, forgot to add Moose to my list, how could I forget! He used to play at the bull a lot, but now plays at other venues too. Can't miss the big hat and looks like aaron neville a bit. Super nice guy. My friend Bruce Isaacson plays at the hogs breath quite a bit too.

Last time at Key West (early 90's?)...

Somebody hired us to come down there, stay a week and provide air refuelings every day. I don't think it was the Navy that hired us cause those refuelings stand out in your mind. I think it was an Air Force or Air Guard unit that hired us, and we just parked the airplane at Naval Air Station Key West, and lived in a Howard Johnson down the road.

They were all daylight refuelings, and the refueling area/tracks were almost directly overhead Key West, albeit 4 or 5 miles overhead. Lunch, not air refuelings became my big concern. If I don't eat every two hours my body will eat itself. Every Air Force base has a "Inflight Kitchen", a great idea cause all they do is prepare foods for you to consume while you're flying long missions. The Navy also has this program. It is called the "Let Me Get This Straight. You Want Food To EAT ON THE AIRPLANE??" program. Clueless. How clueless? They would provide me with coffee for the crew, if I provided the coffee and THE WATER. Essentially, as long as I provided all the ingredients, I could use their coffee urn/s to make coffee to take on the flights. I don't and probably never will understand the allure of that organization.

We were up at altitude and had just finished one set of refuelings and had almost an hour on station droning around until the next set of receivers were supposed to show up. My stomach started to send my brain the "It's Lunch-thirty" message, and all I've got aboard is 2 gallons of water. "Okay, I don't know if you guys (two pilots and a nav) are as hungry as I am but... if you pull the engines back it will take us about five minutes to coast back in to Key West. There is a Burger King on the base. We can taxi the airplane right up in front of the big hangar that is across the street from the parking lot WHERE OUR CAR IS, and you can leave the engines running while I hop out and..."

As we were taxiing in towards the big hangar, a lot of the Navy guys were coming out of the hangar with their lunch bags, and sitting up against the hangar door to eat (Do you think four idling TF-33's ruined the ambience much?) We come to a stop, I come climbing down the ladder and go running across the ramp, the street, into the parking lot, and drive off in the car. These Navy guys are all watching this, and not by choice, but cause we're parked about 150 feet in front of them.

I come back, run across the street, and the ramp, where they can now see what I'm holding as I'm running. Three or four big bags of BK. I got a standing ovation. I stopped in mid-run and took a bow. Throw 3 or 4 bags of food up the ladder to the nav, button up, and away we go. It's not good to refuel on an empty stomach, you can get cramps.

That can be a fun place. I'm not sure if I was on a cruise ship that pulled in, would I take my kids on a sightseeing tour of DeValle (?) Street and what you can see in the shop windows. But, I'm sure there are other interesting things for a family to do on vaca down there.

They have a "Witches Ball" in downtown Mount Holly every year, and you can always see four or five DV's there. But none of them would be playing a banjo. Nope, no talent like that in downtown Mount Holly. I love this country.

I flew into Grissom (Bunker Hill AFB) a couple times but never did stay the night there. Only one of two places that ever had B-58's.
