So my TGR3 is in need of repair. I was planning on getting an Oppo 105 to replace my Pio Elite early next year at bonus time. Then was thinking of selling the TGR3 and getting a 5-channel amp to go with my Sunfire Sig 2-channel and use the Oppo 105 as the pre.
I hate to spend money on something different if that is my ultimate goal. I will probably use my H/K 645 while the TGR gets repaired.
I think I have 3 choices:
Thoughts? And I just had to replace the pool liner so the money tree is a little bare.

I think I have 3 choices:
- Use H/K until Sunfire is fixed and upgrade later.
- Replace Sunfire with an amp and get an Oppo 105 and use as pre
- Buy another receiver (Pio Elite, Yamaha, etc.) and be done.

Personally I would get the Pio Elite AVR and use it to drive everything your 2 channel amp isnt. IIRC the 105 while it would work as a pre, doesnt have a full Audyssey feature set. You can set distances, levels, and crossover frequencies but thats it.
The Pioneer will do all that plus apply a custom EQ filter based on the results from your main LP with a mic.
As an FYI I would still suggest selling the TGP-III somewhere as is. You can make a couple bucks on it. I would start with TheCarverSite and CarverAudio.com as those guys might snatch it up quick."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Oppo. Unless you're an absolute die hard for ht, I'd expect the oppo to provide enough options to get 90% of calibration down. The good thing about this route is you get one of the best players on the market and eliminate another piece in the chain. If you go with a receiver, I wouldn't bother with the 105 since the big part of it is the dac.
Agree with Skip, those are your best two options as I see them.
However while eliminating another piece in the chain, depending on the cost of the additional 5 IC's and the 5 channel amp you need to buy, you might be spending more."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." If you decide to part ways with the TGR, keep me at the top of the list, but my vote is to fix it.The Gear... Pio Elite SC-79 is coming out soon, which uses the same ESS Sabre32 DAC as in OPPO 105. It has all the networking capabilities, async USB DAC, 140W x 9 channels (8ohm), MCACC room calibration, multi-zones, 3D upscale and 4K passthru, plus more. What it doesn't have is the player part.
