Looks like I've been having some bad luck this month. First was the Klipsch speaker, then the Dyna amp and now it's my fish.

A few nights ago he was freaking out and smashed into the heater. Here's a pic of it. You can see the thick glass just broke apart at the base. $60 down the drain. I'm getting another tonight. The poor guy is freezing his **** off.

dayum! one tough fish indeed! that is amazing...I guess his punishment would be no heat for a few days...:)
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Not only did he not get any heat, he got a small cut on his shoulder from the broken glass. I feel sorry for him. I used to own 3. He ate one of the tank mate and the other died from a disease. This guy is a survivor.

It's a red belly piranha. Ok, no shoulders. He hurt his back LOL.

He's actually quite shy around people he doesn't know. The most agressive one is this guy(straight from the wild):

    gatemplin,
I get my aquarium stuff at Big Al's located in Mississauga (Dundas st.). It's a very large fish store the size of a warehouse. They even have real sharks in there.

Another great place is right beside Big Al's in a Chinese center called Aquarium Asia. Both store carry some exotic fresh and marine fish.

    wrx,
Gettin the pieces of glass wasn't too hard because they were in the corner of the tank. I just used a fishnet and scooped them out.

I'll post pics of the feeding frenzy next time I feed them. You can't see much with the red belly because he takes one bite and then swallow. The black piranha is the nasty one. He'll tear apart any fish I throw in his tank. I'll probably feed them in about 2 days.

Somethin about the mental picture of a place that sells fish right next to a place that cooks them doesn't quite seem right......

Well at least he didn't fry electrically or boil overnight with the heater staying on! That's how I figured out it wasn't too smart to go with a really big heater when I didn't need a big one... The thermistat stuck on. Not a pretty site the next evening when I got home!!!

    Organ,
I worked at a Big Als for a couple of years in high school. They have good prices and pretty healthy fish. Is the Chinese center the Pacific Mall?

I shop at both places myself ! Though I don't like the service at Big Al's. Most but not all employees there seem to hate their job - could be their minimum wage or something.....

Aquarium Asia is a good spot too. Even cheaper prices.

    Organ,

There's a decent spot at the Pacific Mall too. You can haggle for for at least no tax or even more.

Considering the Year of the Monkey is coming up, I'll be dropping by these shops. :D

They do get minimum wage and it is hard work scrubbing tanks. Sometimes the service is poor but it depends who you get and some there are real experts. It is still the best aquarium store I know of in the Toronto area.

    brett,
The fish in Aquarium Asia is too expesive to cook:)LOL.

    gatemplin,
No, the Chinese center is in Mississauga. Big Al's is right beside it. That's cool, I wouldn't mind working at Big Al's.

So did you have a lot of hot girls working in your store? I always see them at the store I go to. There's a chick that looks like Britney Spears but I'm not sure if she's still working:(.

You can't beat their selection of heaters, filters, fish food etc. I always end up spending too much everytime I go there.

    begbie,
Cool. I 'll have to check out the one in Pacific Mall one day. I don't go to fish stores often because I have too much crap already:). Last time I went down to PJ's Pet just planning to buy fish food and black water extract but ended up walking out with both plus a power head. I always spend too much in those stores. I know I'll pick up some digital thermometers next time I go back.

There was a great place on Bloor St called New World Aquarium and Pets. They closed down a few yearrs ago though. It was a mom and pop store where you get 10% off if you pay cash. They were very nice people.

    Maurice,

No I dont remember any hot chicks, never in the fish rooms. Maybe up front. I have never been to Mississauga Big Als though. PJs is pretty good but not for saltwater livestock IMO. The aquarium hobby is as addictive as audio it seems. Maybe not as expensive though.

You could combine the two hobbies by throwing a small power amp in the tank with your piranhas. Be interesting to see who wins. Make sure it's a level playing field by leaving that amp plugged in and powered up!
