I am in the process upgrading my RTA 11ts and I am looking into putting spikes on them. Anyone have any experience doing this to these speakers? There are no existing mounting points so I will have to come up with that on my own.

I am thinking press fit and glue a threaded insert(3/8"-24) 1" in from each corner. I might make outriggers at work out of some CRS, with a central slot for attaching to the speakers and tapped hole at both end for the spikes. What is the best material for the spikes?

Any thought on aluminum for the outriggers? Seems like it would vibrate too much.

As for buying them, I haven't had much luck finding many options. Seems like I will have to spend $300 for a quality set of outriggers and spikes.

Any input or ideas would be much appreciated,

Thanks,
Ian

What type of floor are you on? Carpet, hardwood?

You can go from mild to wild with spikes. The ones linked are sold at Parts Express. Note the threaded inserts for **** into the bottom of speaker. To decouple further from my hardwood floor, I cut a simple MDF platform with feet for the speakers with spikes to sit on.

Threaded inserts are available with different size threads.

Right now they are on concrete but will probably be on thin carpet or a rug soon.

You absolutely do not need outriggers with those speakers, spikes will do the job perfectly.

Some places to look at that sell higher quality spikes and inserts are Adona, Via-Blu, HiFi Racks and Track Audio. I have purchased from all 4 and highly recommend all.
