Turns out 1s and 0s don't exist. They're just a construct to shape your view of digital. Also, digital doesn't exist, it's just a way of referring to really fast high tech analog signals. My mind is blown:

I guess the idea that's it's more than 1s and 0s is not new, but I've never heard such a good in depth discussion. Plus there will be a second part to the article. I've always heard the differences in 1s and 0s, but now I actually know why.

Right. Imagine how poorly computers would work if the thesis of the discussion in the link above were explicitly and utterly true for digital signal processing (as opposed to sorta-kinda true). Excel would say to you - "well, the answer might be 67, or it might be 43... it's a little blurry; sorry, hope that won't be a bother". Of course... this might explain the Li-ion batteries in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner...
So, yeah, in the "real" real world, at high enough energies or on small enough scales, nothing is simple/binary/deterministic... and quantum mechanics is the best model for that... but in the kinda-sorta real world we inhabit, them digital switches are either "on" or "off" and that's close enough to run the laptop I am typin' on with pretty good fidelity (yeah, with some error-correction built in to the s/w to allow for the occasional cosmic ray or bad processor or memory element). -

That was pretty good.
Bad in the day, the big thing was "Fuzzy Logic" until folks realized that it was more trouble to "dumb" stuff down as it was to just write good code. At what point was "dumb" not good enough, at what point was "Okay, we're going to get serious here, pay close attention" ?
Grey Code ? "That'll speed computers up ! ". True, in Grey Code when going from the binary number 1 (01) to the binary number 2 (11), only one bit changes state.
When folks realized that this really didn't accomplish anything of value, it sort of went bye-bye.
The guy did touch on some good stuff, IMO. Clock stability and rates in DAC's etc. But when it gets to where you're almost at the philosophical level of "Why are we here ?", then maybe it's time to dial back on the Monster energy drinks.

That's how I read into it as well. Once we started to drift away from the technology and into the philosphy, I lost interest.

My life savings is a 1 followed by six 0's...unfortunately they are all to the right of the decimal point....or I'd have a pair of LSiM705's to go with my 703's. -
