Speaker suggestions?
Another help me with speakers thread. I have a Marantz 2265b receiver. 65 watts per channel, but after a recap it should be over 75. I only listen to music, and 95% of that is vinyl. I have 2 turntables, a Technics 1310 and a 1700.
The room is L shaped. Long side of the L is 30'. Bottom of the L is 24 ' Both sections are about 12' "thick". Speakers have to be at the bottom left and bottom right of the L Listening area is the bottom section of the L.
I've looked for Polk Monitor 10s, but every time I get close, they slip away. I'm tired of waiting and have been looking at the refurbs on ebay. Due to the layout of the room and the furniture, towers would work best for me. And since I may move all of this to a 20' x 12' room at some point, I am leaning toward Monitor 70s or RTi500s.
- Will this Marantz drive these speakers?
- Will these work in this room layout?
Thanks in advance!

Since you only listen to music, I would suggest you wait for some Monitor 10's or better yet, a pair of smaller SDA's.Political Correctness'.........defined

... or Monitor 7 or 5 or Monitor 12 or RTA-12 or maybe even a pair of Monitor 11...
My personal fave, FWIW, remains the Monitor 7... but I am awfully biased, having owned a pair since 1978.
Ex-Polk, I'd... humbly... suggest a pair of ads L-710 or L-810 (actually, virtually any ads or Braun loudspeakers... but the two models I mention are, relative to my tastes, a sweet spot in terms of size, cost, and sound). -
The monitor 70 i have heard'but wasnt hooked to Marantz. Nice speaker. The other i havent heard. But great speaker....I have my Marantz 2252b hooked to a pair of Monitor 7's in my room 14-14 or so..FANTASTIC.. But with the size of your room i myself would go with the 10's or 12 Monitors....the monitor 10's come up often. Even on the bay. There a wonderful speaker for a vintage Marantz. When you see them you have to run'because they go quick..i have the monitor 10's but never had them hooked to the Marantz 2252b but i know it would power them nicely....IMO i would search for a Monitor 10-12 and youll be in heaven if you go with a Polk Product....i had some Klipsch Heresy || and they sounded pretty darn good years ago on a 2252b....there are alot of great speakers out there for a Marantz. It all depends on personal preference....randy..

Welcome to Club Polk!
I have a set of Monitor 70s in my HT and a Marantz 2265 (not . But I've never tried it with those.
I can tell you that a 2265 and a set of classic Polk Monitor 10As is something VERY special. That receiver has fantastic synergy with those old Polks. So if it were me, I'd keep looking for a set of 10s or maybe 7s?

If you are looking for towers then you should check out monitor 75T . These sound phenominal on my 50 watt Onkyo receiver. Egghead occasionally runs them on sale. They sound great with vinyl , and real good punch even for small drivers. Have no desire to even have a sub. Love the way they sound on their own.

Thanks for the input folks. I always intended to keep looking for a set of 10s, 10Bs, etc. I was just looking for something reasonable to use in the meantime. I have a lead on a set of JBL 4800s that I might take a look at. I can get them locally for around $100. Yes, I know they are not as good but they may have to suffice for a while. Or, I may be able to get a set of Monitor 5s, but they might have to be shipped. Again, around $100 with shipping.

Having owned the 4800s, skip em and get those Monitor 5s.
The 4800s may have been Best Buy's top JBL offering in their day but they are far from high end."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."
"Unwad those panties and have a good time man. We're all here to help each other, no matter how it might appear." DSkip -
Well, scratch the 4800s anyway. Already sold.

Vintage Marantz and vintage Polks go together like PBJ, rum and coke, mac and cheese. Well you get the idea. Running a 2252B with a set of RTA8t's in my office rig. Match made in heaven...

What about M5JRs? They are much later that the Monitor 5s. Still an acceptable version?

I found them - completely different woofer setup. I'll keep looking...

I have the 5jr's. they are a wonderful speaker. But IMO with the room size your are going to use them in you may want 7's or bigger.put them on stands/shelf. Just my opinion. Hate to see ya get something than scratch your head and say i should of went a tad bigger for the dimensions of the room size. I would hold out for a pair of 10's myself. They come up often in classified here. Local craigslist. Ebay. You will be smiling ear 2 ear-if Monitor is what you want-as you stated..you can snag a nice pair from 100-250.00 or land a great deal at 50.00----dont get me wrong 5-5jr's are wonderful speakers..
