i just bought a fiber optic cable for my system so i could listeb to DTS. I plugged it in and its not working, it seems that i cant use the DACs on my receiver. the only way i get sound is if i put the surround setting on auto and turn DTS to bitstream on my dvd player instead of off. the DTS logo doesnt show up on my receiver unless the dts is set to off on my dd player. but i dont get any sound that way. how do i set this crap up so i can get dts?

You have to use Optic cable/coax to get Digital period.
Does your reciever decode DD or DTS?
Tweek the settings on your dvd player and double check recievers settings, if they don't communicate you will have problems.

Silly question, but are you selecting DTS in the software's menu? Does the receiver know that the digital fiber input belongs to the DVD player?

    Integrated Amp: Krell S-300i
    DAC: Arcam irDac
    Source: iMac

    3.2 Home Theater Setup:

    Fronts: Klipsch RP-160M
    Center: Klipsch RP-160M
    Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
    AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030
    Blu Ray: Sony BDP-S790

i know its a silly question but i cant figure out why its not working. i am using the optic cable. my receiver does decode DTS. im pretty sure im having problems with the settings but i dont know know where or how. yes the receiver does know, i have the digital input 1 which is where the fiber optic cable is, assigned to the DVD player. i do get sound but only by selecting the auto detect the surround mode of the source. they dolby digital just lights up but there is no DTS logo. if i try to select DTS the dolby digital just flashes and there is no sound. but the DTS logo is lit up. i can't believe i can't get a simple thing like this to work. sorry for the pathetically dumb question lol

    You need a DTS disc.
    - Sony 50"A3000 SXRD; Onkyo TX-SR 805
    - Polk RTi150 mains; CSi30 center; FXi3 surrounds, R15 backs
    - Velodyne CHT-12 subwoofer

I went thru something of the same and it was the settings in my dvd player. Finally had to break out the manual for both to get it straight. Good point, does the disc have the DTS logo?
    SDS-400, SDA-1B, SVS 20-39pc+, B&K Ref 50, Denon 2900

Airplay, I was referring to my silly questions, not yours. Sounds like you might have it figured out, because if the software contains no DTS track you're not going to get DTS playback. You have to select DTS playback in the disk's "audio options" menu.

    Speakers: Wharfedale Opus 2-3

DVD has to be DTS - ya, that would help things along. Buy the EE of TLOTR's and then their is always 6/7 channel. ;)

It may also be worth looking at the settings in the DVD player while you are at it. My player in the audio setting has to be set at 2-channel not multi-channel to get the best surround. It was just one that I just had a problem with and just figured out, I somehow overlooked that one and was flusterated also :o .
