Ok so here's the deal...I am finishing my basement and the dimensions for the media/bar area are 27.6'x16.6' with 8 foot ceilings...so far I have four rc85i's. I am going to put two in the wall on the eifht and left side of the couch and then two behind the couch in the ceiling. My question for everyone is would the tsi400s be enough for the room if I also have a center and a sub? Also does anyone have a good suggestion for a receiver to add to tat setup?

What kind of center/subwoofer ? You obviously want to do 7.1 surround, and with that low a budget for a receiver if your looking at new, then stay in the monitor/tsi line or up to the rtia5's. Anything bigger will require a better receiver or an amp. We normally suggest you look for a receiver with preouts but new that may be hard. Used....the world is your oyster and I would suggest a used pioneer sc receiver like a SC 05, 07.

Onkyo isn't my preference for receivers, but that's a solid product nonetheless.

I'm clueless when it comes to receivers! I am picking up a bit of knowledge here and there I guess. I am upping my budget for the receiver to $1,000. Can anyone help me with a couple options? I have decided to go with RTI A5 fronts

Good choice on your fronts. I would look for a Pioneer Elite SC series on the used market. I run A5's, for fronts, A3's And a CsiA4 center, powered by a Denon 891. It does not have pre outs but plenty enough power to run my set up. I like Denons, but would buy an Elite if I found a good deal on a used one. Welcome to the Polk family you are gonna love those A5's!

I run a5's with an a6 center off of a Pioneer elite vsx32. It has plenty of power to drive them but it also has preouts. Its a few years old now but the new models in the $800 range are lacking preouts

SC-61 is $799.95 on Amazon and has pre-outs...

Onkyo TX-NR818 is $799.00 on Amazon and has pre-outs...

Denon AVR-3313Ci is $799.00 on Amazon and has pre-outs...

Marantz SR5007 is $599.00 on Amazon and has pre-outs (the SR6007 is a closer match to the others above and is $899)

Yamaha RX-A820 is $648.95 on Amazon and has pre-outs...

Pioneer SC-1222-K is $579.99 on Amazon and has pre-outs...

My point being, your stated that
but the new models in the $800 range are lacking preouts
    is rather misleading...

I highly recommend the Marantz if you want basement thumping volume, if you are going to primarily do TV/video I like Yamaha, because of the price to features. Pioneer/Onkyo/Yamaha/Denon = Ford/Dodge/Chevy, Sony = Kia/ Hyundai to illustrate my point. It's preference and NOTHING else.

So to each their own, but as an owner of 3 Vintage pioneers, A yamaha RX-671 that replaced my old Denon, Two 6-7 year old Onk's and a host of other gear, the Marantz is my favorite all in one. Clean, simple, powerful.

Marantz really are a step above in the receiver category, I have a 5007, it has PA outputs and I use 2 recapped Pioneer SX-1050's and 1 Pioneer SX-1250 in the chain on my cobbled together basement Home Theater with B&W speakers (I prefer Polk and Aperion but, they fell off a ship at my friend's dock in Ireland.) The Marantz has the best sound using its own power as well but it is an affable processor IMO. Others will argue, and to be honest I will probably be dumping it for an Emotiva processor. But I still like it.

Point is, the Marantz is the best bet. Used/New/Refurb I like the new RX-X75 series Yamaha's too for H/T use. My 2 year old 671 sounds great too and you can get them CHEAP.

I'll put in my two cents....

Any Pionner SC, Yamaha Aventage, Denon 33XX, or you could maybe even do a pre and pro from emotiva. I personally love my Yammie. Powers my RTIA7's effortlessly. Good luck.
Front- RTI A7,(powered by ADCOM GFA 5500)
