I hear some good opinions from other people's reviews about the technic SL1200 MK2 Turntable. Are these listed here the same ones people may be referring to or possible older ones?
These do seem pretty sweet!!
Essentially I am building my wish list which gives me something to work towards.

Any opinions on the SL 1300?
Thanx!!
Brian

They are great for DJ's heavy duty and tough but most audiophiles stub their nose at them and prefer something better.
A lot of them like belt drives on a quality unit of course.
Maybe something like this.

While there is a love/Hate relationship of this TT and I use it daily..I Love it.
It was originally designed as a upper end TT, but became quickly adopted by the DJ era because of it's durability and weight..
There are many arguments about a great many things about the TT most of which are addressed on the KABUSA site, myths and Facts of the 1200..
Check out the facts on Kab and you will see, and over at Audiogon there is a huge article about the pro and cons..
It's a very good TT with Good cart..ATC SCM40's,VTL TL 2.5 Preamp,PSB Stratus Goldi's,McCormack DNA 500,McCormack MAP-1 Preamp,Pro-Ject Xtension 10 TT,Ortofon Cadenza Red/Nordost RedDawn LS Speaker cables, Bryston BDP-2, Bryston BDA-2,PS Audio AC-3 power cables -
They are a very solid table. Few are built better. They sound good stock, are relatively easy to set-up, are very responsive to mods, and can take a beating and keep on ticking. I consider them a true classic.
I still own one. Even though its not my main table anymore, I will never get rid of it for sentimental reasons and will always have it for a backup.
I second the recommendation for KAB if you end up with a 1200. They are the experts on all things 1200. -
Yea don't get me wrong I love Technics turntables in fact I have two of them the 2000 and a BD-1. I just think they are over kill and made for DJ's. I if spend that much I would get an audiophile (not as rugged or commercial) TT.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

OverKill?? LOL!! Dude get your learn on. They are a Fantasic player, and they were not built for DJ's, they just became a favorite with them, they were being built before they were even being used in this fashion..
There are a lot of overkill TT's out there, and Technics is not one of them.. -

Aw Toolfan66 you've heard it before some say that the direct drive induces noise into the system and that belt drive is better because it is not coupled to the platter. That direct drive was taken up by DJ's because try can scratch albums with them but iyt colors the sound.... blah blah blah
I have had direct drive since 1976.
here is something nice

That what people thought because it was a direct drive there was noise from the motor, but KABUSA disproved that theory there were two version of a direct drive a cheap one and well the SL-1200 one which used a different type of motor.
I can't remember it was the cheap one pulse searched to keep speed were the better one did it a different way.much much better..
KABUSA shows you this and dispels any Rumors you heard before..
Just like the world used to be flat..KABUSA disproved that as well, lolAw Toolfan66 you've heard it before some say that the direct drive induces noise into the system and that belt drive is better because it is not coupled to the platter. That direct drive was taken up by DJ's because try can scratch albums with them but iyt colors the sound.... blah blah blah

Yea but be as it is most the really expensive TTs are mainly belt drive, like you I prefer direct drive. That what people thought because it was a direct drive there was noise from the motor, but KABUSA disproved that theory there were two version of a direct drive a cheap one and well the SL-1200 one which used a different type of motor.
