I was just cruising E-Bay and came across a Polk Monitor 4 speaker .Now I'm not at all interested in buying these but I would like to know can a comparison be made w/ my JBL-J2060 bookenders and these 4s. I know I hear a lot about the higher numbered monitors like the 7s and 10s but these look exactly like my JBLs. 6" woofer ,tweeter and a bottom port. Besides the darker cabinet which I like much better than the fake light maple that I have is there a big difference between these. Yes it can be subjective but w/ me I still haven't heard a Polk product except for a smalls h/t package and my Klipsch smalls crushed them.

Got a set awhile back and was pleasantly surprised. They matched well with a Pioneer SX 780 vintage integrated and sound great on fm and cd. A little large for computer speakers, but would work well in a 2nd system garage, bedroom, ect... or a surrounds for a monitor setup even though the tweets are different. Have no idea how they compare to the JBL's but I'd be all over in pair locally for $60 or less.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

Well its hard to do a side by side without having the JBL's and im sure they are good. But i like my 4's which i have hooked to a Yamaha cr240 and it does what i want from a speaker.office rig.im not a HT kind of guy but we have a Denon with a pair of sb1 Klipsch hooked to our tv and it is amazing. The little guys do a perfect job for bedroom rig..when daughter moves on we plan on HT and i cant wait.....anyways. The 4's will rock the house with big speaker sound. I have hooked a cr1040 to them and clean clear bass is perfect. It was blowing the mat around they were sitting on,from the port on them. I was amazed. To say the least. A nice little speaker for sure..ive owned jbl 2800 ? Or 2500 and these polks blow them away IMO........

The original Monitor 4 used the Peerless silk dome tweeter in a small ported box (the same box as the later ones?)... I'd like to stumble across a pair of those...

I have two pair. One in the garage and the other mint on display in the museum of extras:cheesygrin:.
For what I paid for them $40 each pair shipped you just can't beat the sound.
Those are a little high and so is the shipping.
What is a JBL?
I don't like foam surround on any speaker or blondie fake oak
I think the build quality is better and the speaker are heaver 16 lbs eachPOLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

polkie dude, your right on both counts.I also do not like light fake or real oak or maple .Yes while foam rots and have had to replace 4 8'' woofers on my former Bose 601s so I do know what that's all about. These JBLs for $20 and rarely used as a bdrm rig is fine. Butyl or old style cloth doped surrounds are the best. The ADC 303ax now that's walnut and very heavy w/ those cloth doped surrounds I just spoke about . Those I can push and are a heavy speaker for their size.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

well for $20 you can't go wrong, but the ADC 303ax well those sound like a very nice speaker
you know even most the old radio shack realistic speakers most were real walnut wood veneerleftwinger57 wrote: »polkie dude, your right on both counts.I also do not like light fake or real oak or maple .Yes while foam rots and have had to replace 4 8'' woofers on my former Bose 601s so I do know what that's all about.
