I just purchased a micropro4000 from a guy I know for $400 working. I verified that a few weeks ago. I went to pick it up yesterday and when I brought it home it wont power up, just blows fuses. After researching some I found out that when it destroys fuses the amp is toast. I called Polk CS and they confirmed that.

My question is, should I offer the guy a few bucks for the box and woofer and purchase a plate amp? or should I just give it back. He has no problem giving me my money back.

I just did a brief search on parts express and saw they have a dayton 500 watt and a 1000watt plate amp that will work in the sub. If I decide to go that route does anyone have any recommendations for a solid plate amp around the $300 mark.

Really. I was thinking of offering him $50 for it. I figured, adding a plate amp would make it a decent deal

And what if you buy the plate amp and something else is also wrong with it ? You then have a collection of parts with no working sub worth nadda. I have a feeling that Micro pro was used and abused.

Look for a working SVS, HSU, Velo, Rel, Epik, used you can get a darn nice sub around 4 hundies.

As usuall tony has good info, except for Epik... Looks like Chad has gone the way of ED, which is sad because he made some nice products. Great subs can be had at that 400 mark, and if you step it up just a bit you'll have so many options it'll give you a headache, good luck.

I didnt listen. LOL. I got that sub for $50. I bought a crown xls100 for $249 to power it. Its beastly at the moment and I still need to get the art clean box to ramp up the lfe line to a voltage near the 1.4 that the crown needs. Thats should bump the useable power up quite a bit.

The amp is a fantastic little amp for the price. has a built in crossover and never ever get hot even though I am driving it hard trying to produce volume from the low input voltage. I dont know what it is but I love the sound of the sub, its just so smooth. I think its because its a sealed sub with that giant passive radiator
