Didn't want to bury this in my MMG ad. I'm hoping to pull off a set of Maggie's and Totem's if the price is right but I won't turn down a well priced set of 1.6's, no matter the Totem's.

I had a pair of ALIII+'s... While sound great, the drivers had a lot of issues. The ribbon tended to fail (mine did) and they really need a LOT of power to get decent sound. It took six months to get the ribbon fixed. I ended returning the speakers.

If they are as minty as the seller claims, they shouldn't be a problem. a listening test is all that is required. Sounds to me like you just had some bad luck with yours.

I bought them from the old Circuit City stores a long time ago... They used to sell Carver stuff back then. When i returned them, they said they had a couple of other pairs that were returned with the same issue as mine. The ribbons would break up at moderate volumes. They were finally able to get them fixed and sold them as "open" box items, but the repair techs seemed to have damaged the cabinetry on all of them...

Circuit City and Carver gear... ahh those were the days. They knew almost zero about them and even less about how to care for them, kind of like Ferrari being sold through a Kia store IMHO.

Sorry for the bit of a threadjack there Daboyz. Just trying to help.

No worries John, ya'll can jack-off as much as ya like.:lol:

Seriously though, thanks for the heads up and they may be great but I'm not much of a Carver fan. Just my humble opinion.

Still looking. MMG's in perfect shape will do. I'll order a pair new(MMG) soon if I don't find a good used pair.
