Interesting pair of speakers that I would not spend money on: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/ele/3845671218.html

The Utopians are original contemporary art pieces engineered to perform as a truly high end stereo system. Uniquely designed with elegant tower and floating island structures, they celebrate a blend of futuristic symmetry and retro art-deco streamlining with a touch of opalescent, jewel-like color and ornamental metal.

The Utopians are fully omnidirectional loudspeakers made by two local Seattle artists. With the Utopians, you will have beautiful sound throughout your listening area with a versatile and expansive sound field. Most instruments radiate sound in many directions and interplay with the room; these speakers replicate that quality. With their omnidirectionality, the Utopians broadcast high-quality sound to anywhere in the room, unlike conventional speakers which only focus on one "sweet spot" in the middle of your couch. Whether you are walking around your home on a casual day, sitting down with guests in multiple locations, or entertaining for a larger occasion, everyone will be able to enjoy the warmly detailed sound atmosphere.

They provide even frequency response throughout the entire audible spectrum. Tuned to 28hz with a gradual rolloff of -6db at 30hz, the bass is tight and rich making a subwoofer unnecessary.

The driver hardware is professionally chosen for performance through rigorous testing and peer review. The body of each speaker is built by hand from wood fiber, sculpturally cast original hydrocal deflectors, and brass and surface treated steel fittings. The exteriors have been painstakingly layered with hand-sanded undercoating, building up to a brilliant dual-tone finish.

The Utopians are active-crossed, 2-way speakers. Each component is individually calibrated, and individually amplified for optimum performance. These speakers require an amplifier with at least four channels; if you do not have a four channel amplifier, we can include one and set it up for you at cost. When you purchase these speakers, we will personally install them in your house and calibrate them to your listening room. Proper calibration can take several hours, but once done, you will have an incredibly lifelike reproduction of music.

If you prefer to do your own advanced audio calibration, you can plug directly into the Utopians' DSP controller and tinker to your heart's content. A calibrated microphone and a computer with a USB port are all that's required.

Order a pair to be custom-made with your color preferences, or purchase our prototype with ember red to deep blue dual-color finish. Orders will be ready to ship 3-4 weeks from date of purchase.

Is it just me, or do those feet look like coat-hooks for a door?

They look like it because they are.

With omnis, the entire room is "the sweet spot". Not my preferred type of speaker, but they can sound nice.

Obviously marketed toward the art gallery type verses the audiophile, but can't blame them for that if he can get the asking price.
