I'd just like to publicly thank Tonyb. A couple of weeks ago someone posted a craigslist ad for a Pioneer Sc-05 for 300.00. I was very interested to upgrade a little bit and get some Blu-ray codacs and HDMI switching that my Denon 3805 don't have. So i emailed the craigslist seller and got a big yes sir it's still for sale. I then contacted the seller by phone as he gave me his number left a voice message and he called back and we talked at length about the Pioneer. I then contacted Tonyb to see if he would do some leg work for me. Let me set this straight right now I have NEVER met Tony heck really never have had any conversation with him at all. Tony contacted me back told me to do most of the work and let the seller know that someone different would be my eyes and decision maker as i had not seen or heard the unit. I then hit Tony back up to let him know my progress and again asked if he'd mind doing this for me. To my surprise not only did he say sure but went on to say that he would just buy it for me and i would just pay him back. I was shock to say the least. Tony then set up a time and the best day was yesterday for the seller I thought yes this was going to be great I was STOKED. Tony was getting no answer to his phone calls so I left another voice mail to let him know that I was ready to buy. The seller then sent an email telling me that he had decided to keep the unit I believe it was all a scam from the get go or he now decided that he should get more money for the unit..
Either way I can't thank Tony enough for his time and effort to help a fellow member that he has never met.
So Tony let me just say here
THANK YOU you are the man

Had nothing but positives with Tony! He is a great guy! God bless him.
Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Hell, he would never leave Steve.
He seems alot more enjoyable after hitting the PowerBall (or so I read on this forum:cheesygrin:).
I happened to run across a pic of Tony recently and wanted to share with you:
JK, he's a good guy, I have always enjoyed talking with Tonyb.Testing

No kidding!! So enlighten me here. Do you pay for craigslist ads? Why keep placing an ad then? For me this was the first time I ever responded to a CL ad. I have been watching some Pioneer SC-o5 I seen on eBay most of the time they sell for around 400.00 so he won't really be making a bunch more on it. Still it kind of soured me on CL ads I'm just glad I didn't set up a time only to drive all the way up and turn around to go back home.
From the start the guy seemed legit talked at length about his gear he asked about my gear. I don't know he could of called either of us and said he had a change of mind but he took the chicken way out..Email... My reply was not kid friendly but i didn't curse him out either. He had many opportunities to say something while we talked for 5 days even told me he would give me all paper work and his receipt for the purchase. Not once did I ever try to low ball him not once did he ask for more. I told him if it was truly unused I had a little apprehension since I could have a problem 6 mo. down the road as it would be out of warranty but if he did use it I'd feel more comfortable knowing that it had some use and any bugs it may have had would of surfaced. He stood by his word that it had less than 20 hours on it. So I gave him plenty of opportunity to come clean so to speak. -
Why keep placing an ad then?
Nope, you don't even have to have an account to list. Why keep placing an ad then?
I think it so he can get people to bid on it.
Someone makes an offer and the seller says, "well I got a better offer than that already".
Even though this "offer" is more than the asking price.
They start extremely low to get attention, and get people to email.
He may not have done that to you, but I have seen it before.
No telling the percentage of scams on CL (50%?).
After ribbing Tony a little in my first post, you'll have to excuse me as I go look out my window to make sure nobody has pulled in the driveway.:eek:Testing

Yeah there were 3 guys on the forum (including Pit) looking at this model and all had corresponded with him. I stopped this weekend as did the other forum member (Poolgod69) I believe.
I figured Ivan deserved the unit as he was first in line so I would wait till he made his move. The seller seemed a bit quirky in our email correspondence. The unit was out of the box but he couldn't take a picture of it turned on?
I know Poolgod69 had a BUNCH of emails with him as well, but I never heard back after he said he would send pics. I was hoping he would send them so I could forward to Pitdog.

No worries we use thermo scopes these days and crawl for miles to get into place......

just kidding it is what it is and Dan knows I said that very thing to him. If it was meant to be it would of been....nouf said -
I am just saying you do not have to even register or start an account to post stuff for sale on CL.
Anyone can do it, free, no account required.
The only thing you need an account for is to manage, edit, relist, ect. multiple items for sale.
It makes it alot easier with an account that will show you everything you listed, and the ability to edit, ect.
As for ribbing Tonyb?

Just so you know for sure Pitdogg, I consider Tony a friend and one of the best people I have met on this forum.
So I am just kidding about the mafia connection............or am I?
With his name (If you only knew his name, you would be googling "Chicago Gangsters"), and living in Chicago?
Do I enjoy giving him hell?
Yep!:cheesygrin:Testing

Yep 3 guys from this forum interested and he was not too interested in selling it?
Something is fishy IMHO.
Taking bids as mentioned earlier.
Listed it cheap to get emails, alot of attention, ect. then expected people to bid it up.
Prolly not brave enough to ask for more than listed, so only the people that emailed and offered more when he said he was not going to sell it anymore, are the ones that got replies.
I could be wrong, but thats what is looks like, and I have seen it before.
I went through that recently with a member on here.
Had to beg to know whether the item was even still for sale.

Ivan,
Your welcome my friend, always willing to help a fellow Polkie out when I can. Really though, all I did was offer up some assistance, make some phone calls. Had to chase the dude, shouldn't have to do that if someone wants to sell something. I talked to the guy once, and all he could babble on about was his Krell mono blocks and how he was an "industry insider" because he worked at Best Buy and Tweeter. Red flags were going up obviously but still worth the chase since he lives 10 minutes down the road from me. Then no returned phone calls after I set up a time to pick it up.
Sorry it didn't work out for ya Ivan. Hope your water pipes are getting a good make over too as Ivan had a pipe burst in his basement as we were trying to deal with this craigslist bozo. They couldn't shut the water off either so he had some serious issues going on, but still took time to communicate with me. A champ of a guy.
You downstate dudes, you guys are good eggs down there. Be happy to help you guys out if you see something up North.
Btw- Steve....may take you up on that someday as it's been awhile since the wife and I were out Arizona way. Our usual stops were in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and Sedona. Your on the south end, may be a nice change of pace. Get the barn ready...yee-haw !!HT SYSTEM-
