Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. Congratulations, jhayman. IMO, the Yamaha CR 2020 is one of the best vinatge receivers of all time. I have one driving my SDA 2B TL speakers and it does a fantastic job and sounds great. I love the Yamaha CR series and the CR 2020 is one of the best. And what a deal. They easily go for between $350-$500, depending on condition. You literally got a steal. Wow! Enjoy!

A vintage pair of Polks wouldn't be a bad choice...
but then again, neither would, say, a pair of Allison Ones.

The CR-2020 is a fine, beautiful, and elegant receiver.

Well after much reading online about this receiver, it seems I have found myself a real gem and worth getting fixed up..
I think I am going to bring it to a vintage audio repair business..
It works fine but I think I would like to get it looked at and cleaned up, I'll pop the top off today to have a look and see what thevcolors tell me, if they were a smoker and or very dusty ,crud, and post a few pics maybe someone could chime in to tell me if it really looks like it needs attention or not..
I know a couple of the lights are out, but I read they run parallel so if one bulb goes they all do not work.
As for speakers the only other speakers I have kicking around are from my original Stereo in 1988 called Vision Acoustics nothing special..
But I like th fact the CR-2020 has 2 phono inputs very cool, great for A/B comparisons..
I would have to search up here for vintage Polks, you guys have so much more choice than we do up here, specifically for shipping in the Conus flat rate..

I have the cr-1040 and hooked to Monitor 10's and it is to me a perfect match for my room size..i have also a cr-620 hooked to Monitor 7's which also sound fantastic. Overall i like the 7's for size. If i was going to upgrade parts the 7's would win....cleaning that unit shouldnt be expensive. Here i was quoted a price of 55.00 with lights repaired also. I think that was very fair....i think you will enjoy that unit with whatever speakers you like....that was a very good find.... Randy

I have a question, can this receiver accept Logitech Z-5500 speakers or Realistic Minimus old oak cabinets..without causing one sort of melt down?
I remember one time many years ago, I wanted to have better computer speakers so I cut the wires on the Altec Lansing amp/sub combo and plugged in better speakers and the amp went POP, lol
So I don't want to have a melt down, which I'm sure won't happen with this amp but just using Caution..
Also my Bigger speakers are 6ohm will that matter on this unit?

Im not sure about the Logitech but the Realistic's should work i would think. With that receiver you could make a pair of nice speakers sing. Do some research. Depending on budget is always a factor too.... The Yamaha should be able to support 6ohm speakers. If im wrong someone will chime in'im sure......what is the model of the Realistics ? There are alot of good advice here. Mhardy has alot of Yamaha's and has been a big help with speaker advice especially with the CR- models :)

....those are BEAUTIFUL. I thought i had one recently but the seller had issues on Ebay. So i didnt/wasnt able to purchase it. So i ended up buying the cr-1040
talking about the cr models. I hope to land a cr-1000 some day. I think it is my favorite besides the 3020 MONSTER RECEIVER....but for now im content with what i have....

Jhayman, the Yamaha CR 2020 has no problem at all driving 6 ohm speakers. In the past, I used my CR 2020 to drive a pair of Polk Monitor 10s and they drove them with ease and it was a great match (early Monitor 10s are 6 ohm while later Monitor 10s are 8 ohms). And now I use my CR 2020 to drive a pair of SDA 2B TL speakers, which are also 6 ohm, and it does a great job driving them and sounds wonderful. The only thing to be careful about with the CR 2020 (and I learned this the hard way) is NOT to use it to drive 2 pair of speakers if either pair of speakers is less than 8 ohm. But, if you are using it to drive only one pair of speakers, and your pair of speakers is 6 ohm, there is no problem at all. Enjoy!

I found a pr of PSB Alpha's that were hanging on my wall for a 7.1 but I forgot I had them there, never hooked them up.

I thought you were driving your 2Bs with a Parasound 1200(?).

teekay, I am currently using the Yamaha CR 2020 with the SDA 2Bs. I got the HCA 1200 but never got a pre amp for it so I was using it with the CR 2020 for a while. However, since I am selling the HCA 1200 (I have it listed for sale in the FM), I decided to go back and just use the CR 2020 for now until I can afford a good pre amp such as a Parasound 2100. I will be getting a mint Parasound HCA 1500A in a few weeks and when I get a pre amp for that I will use that with the SDa's. I am trying to move the Parasound HCA 1200 and am selling it cheap if you know of anyone who needs a great amp at a fantastic price. Thanks.

Jhayman, that is a HUGE score. Congratulations!! Best I've seen in a while. I mean fifteen bucks!?! Fifteen bucks?!? You pulled the ol' "bring your own pricing label gun" trick, didn't you?

pglbook, congrat's on the HCA1500A! You're gonna love that amp with your SDAs. I had a super minty one lined up at an unbelievable price and I snoozed and I loozed. I still get upset every time I think about it...

    Thanks Teekay0007...
no pricing gun here if I had I would make everything a $1 for me, lol
I just go there everyday for 5 min, so far I've found a Mint Technics SL-1200MK2, Rotel CPD-930ax and the Yamaha and few other nik nacks, most of my record collection is from there..
I pull about 5 or 6 and go over them with a cloth to check for scratches and such been pretty lucky I must say..
Not to mention the Deal I got on my Paradigm Reference Studio 100's for less than 1/2 price and I sold my PSB's the same day as well..
and know I'm here talking to you guys learning a lot and even buying things from members, lol

I just remembered there is a Yamaha service Center about 15 min from me, I completely forgot about even though I was already there once before, lol
Think I will call them Monday and see if they will look at my unit and give it a bath in some fancy water to clean all the parts..

Well I've had enough beers to venture opening the 2020 and just as I thought it dusty, I mean it probably has not been opened in 35 years..
Going to use my compressed Air from a can to clean it up a bit..
It has five lights four in the VU meter area and one one the tuning bar to light up the station..
That one works but the other four do not, anyone care to guess, I mean besides the obvious they are all burnt out, maybe something I can fix while I have it open..?
I thought I read somewhere they were all in series so if one dies they all die, but one is working?
    Thank You for your patience
