carver c2 for 100 bucks, but mute and power buttons pop

Just wondering if these popping noises when mute or power is pushed are kinda common with this unit as it ages, and if just using a secondary switch to turn it off and on, and never using mute might make this a good purchase.
Im dying to get back into 2 channel, and carver has intrigued me, had a nice adcom stack, would like to maybe try some carver stuff, but dont want to walk right into a known bad situation.
Thanks in advance.
BTW, the phono conn. on the back says phono load, i assume a mm cart is fine, otherwise, not right for me.

The power and mute switches (or relays, if switching is relay-activated) are probably just dirty and need cleaning. Some DeOxit sprayed into the switches and pressing them a few times may cure the problem. If it is relays that need cleaning, that may be a little more involved. The C2 accommodates both MM and MC cartridges. The LOAD jacks are for inserting load resistors soldered to RCA plugs, and is meant for loading MC cartridges. Complete information is in the C2 owner's manual which can be downloaded from the Carver website.Main System: Denon DP-59L | Audio-Technica AT33EV | Marantz SA-11S2 | Classe DR-10 | Classe CA-300 | Classe RC-1 | PSB Stratus Gold i's | DIY Balanced AC Power Conditioner | Acoustic Zen and NeoTech cables | Oyaide and Furutech power connectors | Dedicated 20A isolated ground line.

Scottyboy, I just had a thought about the preamp making popping noises when the power switch is activated ? The only way the seller would know that is if he has his amp on at the time, which is a big no-no. You are not supposed to turn a preamp on/off when the amp is turned on or you WILL get pops or thumps. With that in mind, it is possible that there could be nothing wrong with the C2's power switch.Main System: Denon DP-59L | Audio-Technica AT33EV | Marantz SA-11S2 | Classe DR-10 | Classe CA-300 | Classe RC-1 | PSB Stratus Gold i's | DIY Balanced AC Power Conditioner | Acoustic Zen and NeoTech cables | Oyaide and Furutech power connectors | Dedicated 20A isolated ground line.

I always power my amps down and let the sound fade out before I switch off the preamp and source, and power up in the reverse order. Never heard a pop that way.The Gear... I just might be lucky w/ the combo I have . I get no thumping or popping sounds when turn on my 2-chl devices. I have tried every way pre 1st ,amp 2nd and so on. Also I have listened to all of you and the concenses is never to plug your amp or sources into your preamps' outlets and I don't .The only sound I get which the Adcom 555 owners have talked about is a minor deflating balloon type of sound when the 555 is powering down .I do remember both w/ some Phase Linear amps and even McIntosh there are turn on thumps which can be very disconcerting.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Scotty, I know a fella on this forum who has some extra carver gear I believe including possibly a nice Carver pre-amp. Let me see what I can come up with.
