I was going to get a B&K ref 30 from audiogon or new from 6th Ave. I think I just found the best price on a new Ref 50 though. http://store.yahoo.com/hificity/eqproc.html They say they'll even cover the warranty but we'll see how that goes down.

$hit, never mind. I found them at Gizmos and a few other places for less than $1600 shipped. Cool

I'm not sure of their site as I got it while searching with Yahoo shopping. Here's All Home Theater which is pretty decent. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/allhometheater/preamproc.html

$1595 is an unbelievable price for a new Ref 50. Just a few months ago it was $3,000. People were paying $1,900 and up on eBay and Audiogon a few months ago for used Ref 50s. B&K announced a $1000 price drop effective Dec. 1.

I checked on B&Ks website for All Home Theater's zip code 07008 for an authorized dealer. All Home Theater was not listed but Home Theater Shop was. Different addresses though so not the same place.

I would definitely check with All Home Theater and ask about the warranty and why it is not listed on B&K's website. Might not be a bad idea to call B&K too.

Very nice price though and an awesome pre / processor.

I'd be especially careful about getting a B&K Ref 50 from an unauthorized dealer. I think the Ref 50 is on something like its fourth software upgrade now, and they're not free if you don't have B&K's warranty coverage. As a test site for Motorola's DSP engine, B&K has access to great technology but you may not want to end up with a first version Ref 50 and have to pay to get the upgrades, some of which fixed problems.

Authorized dealers have the Ref 50 for $1999. May be well worth the extra money, especially since the new units were selling for $2999 last month.

Good point on the upgrades. I emailed All Home Theater and the 50's have the latest software. The warranty is stated on their website as not being covered by B&K but they will repair for the length of the factory warranty at their dealers. This includes shipping to and from the repair location. Still tempting for $1595 shipped.

Whats with the $1000 price drop? New model coming out soon? The only thing I don't like about the B&K is the lack of component video inputs. I have 4 devices now but only 2 inputs on my AVR. Hopefully there next one with have a component in for each video input. I'd love to upgrade to B&K someday.

I'd also be careful about buying from a non authorized dealer. And make sure you understand the return policy. Nice gear to get though.
