What do you feel about the newer Stanton or Audio-Technica style turntables. Do you think they are worth it?

I had the Audio Technica AT PL60 and i liked alot. It sounded great for a starter unit. Cheap price..i have heard the AT PL 120 is a AWESOME unit. I was thinking about buying one. I have never heard one but they have very good reviews. Im sure people who know turntables would know more than i do..im thinking there around 220.00 new. Not bad price IMO....goodluck on your search. Keep us updated what you decide....randy..

What exactly are you trying to do with it?
If you're wanting to pull albums over to the digital domain then those tables aren't going to be good enough, you'd be better off just buying the CDs. To get even a decent transfer you'll need to spend a good bit more. If you're not looking to transfer and just want to listen then you can get a better TT without USB.
Basically, I can't think of a scenario where those ARE a good buy unless you just want to get alot of music transferred and don't care about the quality. -
Assimilated- I am looking at TT that I may be interest in. I saw these and they look pretty cool but not into ripping the music over.
I am also looking at the BSR McDonald 6500 and the Garrard 760...
I am open to suggestions beyond that.

What's your budget? I'm really not a fan at all of USB turntables in that price range. You're much better off getting a good turntable within your budget and then adding an adapter later on to rip to computer if that's your thing.
At anything under $300 your best bet is probably something used, as you approach the $400 dollar mark though a few new options like the Project Carbon become viable options. -
I would like to stay under 400. I would be willing to look at more if it was the right TT.Marantz SR 5010

I'm not old school and don't know all the good models of years past, but the Pro-Ject Carbon is hard to beat at $400.

I've tried USB and going into the soundcard or on board sound and the USB does not have the range, sounds like AM radio at least the sound card route is closer to FM quality. You can get a turntable with or without a built in preamp and if the latter is the case a preamp won't cost more than $40.

For your intended use, don't bother with those usb tables. The Pro-ject table mentioned would be a far better option.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

With quality vinyl rips the RIAA equalization is very important. Table should maintain proper speed with a decent cartridge. Back in the days when digital didn't exist quality receivers had very good phono stages. Use tape out to record to a computer. Use the free program Audacity to record. I rip an entire album side then split up the individual tracks in Audacity. To me queuing/recording individual tracks is like watching paint dry.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *
