Happy Memorial Day !
Since moving the Kansas City I have wanted to smoke something so we decided to do pulled pork yesterday.
Not bad for my first attempt. Came out great.
I get why smoking is so popular, 7-9 hours of drinking beer.

Right on!
Prepping the rig now - ribs have been rubbed down and are setting up. Got the digital thermometer out to get the rig dialed in to 225F. Using hickory for the smoke.
We'll see.....
Time to open the 'tool kit' for something cool to drink - gonna be a warm one in So Cal today!

Glad to see some folks enjoying their Memorial Day! I just don't see nothing "Happy" about it...
The paradox of saying 'Happy Memorial Day':
Not to be confused with saying 'Happy Veteran's Day', Happy Birthday', 'Happy Thanksgiving', 'Happy Anniversary', etc., one should not actually use the word 'Happy' for Memorial Day. However, because we all see and hear the term 'Happy' every year during Memorial Day, it has become habit--a form of unconscious wiring--to attach it. So, from now on, let us try to mourn with a smile on our face, but not using the term 'Happy' with Memorial Day; that's what our fallen comrades would want us to do.
Take care...

Did the BBQ thing yesterday. Ribs rubbed down and basted with my homemade KC style sauce, lamb chops, eggplant Parm., grilled peaches, Rosemary and garlic skillet style tators, spinach salad with bacon dressing, Pecan pie and ice cream. Forgot the Bruschetta too, also homemade with buffalo mozzarella on top and broiled.

i have had many friends and family serve this great country in order for us to enjoy the blanket of freedom we take this day to remember. the ones who came home, and the ones who didn't, are all on our minds today, and i know not one of them would want for us to be sitting around miserable on a three day weekend spent with good friends and family. everything worth fighting for always has a shading of the bittersweet... and i personally will never forget that while "celebrating"... but any day dedicated to the fight for freedom should have happiness thrown in somewhere...Polk Lsi9

Well said.
I'm enjoying this weekend and still mindful of what sacrifices were made to secure this privilege...yet I am still enjoying the day.

The ribs turned out killer! Just the right amount of smoke, rub, and pork flavor.
Not perfect - coulda been just a bit more tender, but dang....they were really good! Got a solid 8.5 rating from the ever critical family panel of judges

We were at the track, so no pictures but we had the usual tailgate stuff. Cheeseburgers, brat's, hot dogs, beans, chips, beer [and LOTS of it] along with beans, fresh veggies and all the fixin's one would ever desire to dress them all up. The rum and Cokes along with the Pineapple Juice and Vodka every half hour on the hour didn't hurt either. Good times!
Hope everybody had a great memorial day and a big shout out goes to all who have served to make just such an occasion possible. Many folks were in tears at the track when they played "Taps", including a soldier with us that lost a few friends in Afghanistan. My thoughts also go to the folks that got hurt during the race with the camera malfunction. My first thought when I walked around turn 1 was, "That's a very unsafe idea, I hope nothing falls". That rope had to have been at least 3/4 of a mile long and at a height of about 200' going over the racetrack and the fans. I knew something was amiss when the caution lights went up and I didn't see any accident. I immediately looked up and saw that there were now two cables instead of three. That's the second time we have been at the CMS and a serious "incident happened". We were there when the pedestrian bridge collapsed as well, thankfully not on the bridge at the time.
