I would buy new because you're gonna want to upgrade soon and their trade in program is nice

^This. The trade in program on the MMG's offset the extra cost as you get their full value back IIRC and dont have to deal with losing any money and the headache of selling, packaging, etc."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." It's possible that you'll like the MMG and want to stick with them, but the two more likely scenarios are that you'll want to upgrade from the MMG or that you just won't like the sound, and either way buying direct is the way to go.

I've heard the MMG's and more than likely the only upgrading I'll be doing is to them.

For not much extra coin, you can find a set of 1.6's on the used market. They take up no more space than the MMG's from a footprint standpoint and they are much better balanced overall. I would get these and consider that your first upgrade to the MMG's. The MMg is a fine speaker in it's own right, but it is like having sex for the first time. They always leave you wanting more... and more and more....The Gear... Dave, some food for thought:
http://canadahifi.com/magnepan-super-mmg-loudspeakers/?fb_source=pubv1Magnepan has announced that it will be introducing a new Super MMG, 3-piece system, which includes a bass panel at T.H.E. Show Newport, taking place May 31st to Jun. 2, 2013. The Super MMG speakers are only available as a system. (“New MMG” speakers picture above – not the new Super MMG system)
The new Super MMG is said to offer improved performance of Magnepan’s existing ”New MMG” loudspeaker across all frequencies. Details shared on the Super MMG have been sparce to date, so the debut at T.H.E. Show will be the first opportunity to really get to hear what this new product will deliver.
The Super MMG will continue to be designed and built in the U.S.A. as it goes with other Magnepan products. There will also be an option for a 60-day in-home-trial, that allows for the return of all or part of the system, within that period.
The Super MMG 3-piece system will have a MSRP of $1,199 U.S. with the option of adding an additional bass panel that will take MSRP up to $1,750 U.S. for the 4-piece system. Thanks, Dan. I was hoping to get a pair used but looks like new will be the route I'll have to go. I doubt I'll do the sub option, though.
