Crossover

Heres MY SET-UP:
  • Mains: RTi70
  • Center: CSi40
  • Surrounds: FXi50
  • Subwoofer: Infinity Entra Sub Two
I was wondering what i should set the Crossover on the sub--it is continuously variable from 50-150 Hz. Also--it has a phase switch and that should be set to what ever gives me the most bass right?

    PH, you haven't described your receiver. If it's a HT receiver with a sub output connect the sub out to either of the line level inputs on the Sub Two with a coaxial cable. You'll set the crossover on the receiver(80Hz if that's available)and then the sub crossover would just be in the way, so set the switch to LFE, which completely bypasses the internal sub crossover and of course requires no setting of it. Yes, the phase switch should be set for the strongest bass and if there's little or no difference noticeable it should be left at 0.

    I just re-read the manual. It says that i can set the settings for all of the speakers to either large or small. Large=Reproduce Full Range. Small=Reproduce Everything Above 90Hz. What should I set the center, mains, and rear surrounds to--large or small? The receiver is set-up so it only sends signals below 90Hz to the sub. It has an LFE Output and i have the sub switch on LFE. It is connected using Monster THX Subwoofer Cable. The phase switch i can deal with later--i know how it works. Also should i set the bass knob on the receiver to max and handle the amount of bass from behind the sub or should i have the knob ont he sub on max and handle bass volume with reciever knob?

    I'd set all of your speakers to "small," and the sub to "yes" in your receiver's setup menu. I'll let someone advise you as to your other questions, but I certainly wouldn't turn up my sub's gain to maximum output, or anywhere near it.

    Yes, set all speakers "small" and then the receiver will send most of their bass below 90Hz to the sub. You've correctly set the sub switch to LFE so that its internal crossover is bypassed. If by "bass knob" you mean the tone control on the front next to the treble control, that has nothing to do with the level of the subwoofer; those controls affect only the tonal balance of the main speakers and possibly might never be changed from the center position. Study the manual and note the sections on balancing the speakers beginning on page 19 and changing speaker and sub levels beginning on page 39. You set the sub level(which shouldn't really have to be changed later)by a combination of the receiver sub level setting and the level setting on the sub itself. Neither should have to be set near their maximum.
