Need HELP subwoofer has loud HUM

I just got a modded PSW1000 today and as soon as I hooked it up I get this loud Constant hum coming from the sub. I contacted the seller and he said its a ground loop issue and that I should get a power conditioner to fix it. I looked online and someone Saids to get a directional subwoofer cable. I have tried switching outlets but no luck. The only time it stopped is when I took it into another room and hooked it up to a different setup. I also have 2 amps connected to the same SurgeX protector in the main HT. this was not happening with my PSW505 if anyone has a solution please reply. Thanks

maybe ground loop but to me it sounds like power supply filter cap is bad....

If the filter cap was bad it would hum on the other system also

Standard trouble shooting procedure:
Start from scratch, unplug everything, AC, interconnects, TV set-top box, computer, power conditioner.

a] Plug the sub's AC into the wall, does it hum? (if not)
b] Plug the receiver into the same AC outlet, use a plan-jane interconnect from receiver to sub, does it hum? (if not)
c] Continue adding one component at a time, all into the same outlet, always using plan-jane interconnects.

Some common sources of hum:

Telephone cables
Internet cables
Satellite or Cable TV cables
PC's
Game boxes

Connecting some of your components to one AC circuit and the rest to another circuit.

Glad to see your putting the forum to good use.. this is what I first suggested. Its costs about a buck at Lowes..

but I also suggested getting a nice power conditioner considering the level of equipment that you have gathered. Many of us on the forum have learned that lesson the hard way. Its money well spent and there are several different units available, most of which will add aesthetically to your AV rack. If you are convinced the amp is at fault, its under warranty and I am a distributor for Dayton so no worries. If your still not happy your unit is covered by the EBAY 2 week return policy, and I have a list of people looking for these so I have no issues taking it back, since they are sold out now. I would definitely try the cheater plug first.

Thanks for all the help! Since my original post all I have been doing is trouble shooting. I found the problem it was my cable TV line. As soon as I unplugged it the hum was gone. I'm glad I found it because I was starting to get really pissed off. Hahahaha. I am doing a big move soon so I'm not going to bother calling the cable company but I did run over to a local store and picked up a cable TV ground loop isolator. I do plan on getting a conditioner but can't right now because I just spent a few hundred on a new amp and the modded PSW1000. Again thanks for the quick reply

Awesome job finding the problem. I used to have a bad intermittent hum problem. A few years back when I was doing some upgrades I ran a dedicated line from the breaker box that only the monster box plugs into and then my entire system plugs in the monster. It's cool to look at, and it gives various readouts so you can tell when your systems doing work. I had a local guy buy two of these subs from me. I delivered them and helped set up the system. It sounded quite good but then later that evening he called me with a hum problem. When it got dark and he turned on the lights in his room the hum showed up. The lights never effected mine, but if I plugged in a cell phone in the kitchen to charge it would show up. But you have to expect some issues when you're running 5000 W RMS, and your neighbors just listening to 25 W speakers on their flat screen. Enjoy your system, based on the hardware that you have I'm sure it's going to be quite impressive.

It's amazing how many time it's the cable tv ground problem that causes these problems, glad you found it nme medic!
