SDA's and low ceilings?

Over the next two weeks my setup will slowly be making its way down the the basement/man cave. Its a fairly decently sized room however it has a much lower ceiling than my living room. I will get the measurements of room tonight. I should be able to set my SDA 1Cs up properly per the instructions but will the low ceiling cause any problems or damper the SDA effect.

    You should still be fine.

My 1C's are in a room with the ceiling at about 8ft I would guess, they sound fine.

Let us know what your measurements are but I think you will be fine as long as they are set up right.

I've had SDA's as big as 1C's in my basement with 7' ceilings. You're fine.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

We always talk about SDA's needing room to breath but I never thought of the ceiling as a factor until now. I didn't think it would have any affect but my curiosity got the best me so I decided to ask those of you who are much smarter than I.

I just measured the room, its 16.5ft in length, 12.5ft in width, and just over 7ft in height. It current setup it vintage wood paneling, laminate tiles, and those white tile ceiling squares (not the drop down kind).

Ceiling height does make a difference, but I think higher is worse than lower. Your room is going to be lively. Carpet, upholstered furniture and wall treatments will be a big help.

That was the plan! I will be looking at Lowe's and a few other carpet places for a remnant large enough to cover most of the floor. Should I place the SDA's directly on the carpet or would it be better if place them directly on the tile? My original idea is to have the carpet come about 18-20in from the wall. This will give me a nice hard flat surface to place my speakers and audio stand.

Personally, I'd go wall to wall, but whatever you decide spike those speakers and audio stand.

I was thinking if I placed them on the tile it would be better then placing them on carpet. Spikes are in the game plan but not anytime soon. I want get the tweeters and XOs done first.

I would go wall to wall carpet and then something like what is on the ceiling for the walls.

    1. Might want to use a room node program to locate the best initial placement point for the speakers and seating. 7 foot X 2 = 14 foot--mighty close to the other two dimensions. Room nodes are going to be a problem. You're definitely going to need acoustic treatments.

    2. Be careful what you put on the walls. Carpet on the floor is bad in a fire--releases toxic gasses. Carpet on the walls will release additional toxic gasses, may be a fire hazard in itself.

My 1Bs are in a basement room with a 7-foot dropped (acoustic tile) ceiling; there's fiberglass insulation above the tile filling the floor joists.

I have been looking at some room node programs but I am horribly confused as to the results. Is their a good free one out there that also explains some of the results I am looking at.
