I bought the item posted above. It was a pretty good price with shipping and will leave me room if I have to replace anything. I didn't need it though. My only excuse for buying is that I already have a black power switch for the 555.

Is there a support group on Club Polk. The kind that says it was okay to do that. My bad I meant enabler group.

Club Polk, in its entirety, is an enabler group!

Yes, step one: get rid of the white power switch - or brace yourself for massive loads of crap flung your way.

That's a good price on that amp if it works as it's supposed to. Good luck with it, hope it works out for you.

I had nothing but pure clean power from mine. How old and how many owners I don't know but it's built well and keeps on giving. Anything around or under $300 is a great price...

After I posted my reply I then looked up the add.HERTZ even w/ shipping you did get a great deal on a powerful amp.
Now I have a question of my own. After going through the E-Bay adds there is one 555 for now @ $150.The seller has no history at all.Having only won 1 item and wasn't all that happy w/ his packing job do you buy from someone w/ no selling history. Listen I know you have to start somewhere and the reverse happens when sellers want only buyers w/ a history. So any do you roll the dice and I guess contact seller of what you expect how your device will be package and arrive safely. My item was the Niles SP-6 speaker selector which the seller nested the device in shredded paper w/o bagging the selector so I had shards of paper and dust all over it.

Shipping amps can be bad news due to the weight; especially if you don't know the seller. If I'm shipping an amp, I prefer to do it in the original box and foam as that is the safest option. It only takes one misstep between the sender and the shipping company to get a damaged amp...

I have 3 GFA555s now so I know what you mean. Hehe.
The last one I got was an eBay purchase and the other 2 were members here. Packaging on all 3 was fantastic...and all 3 done differently.

Scotty's was probably the most protected though. Of course it was like a 1 hour ordeal to get into the expand-a-foam shell. LOL.

The Adcom GFA-555 that I bought only had one ups for bids. I got lucky with that and my max bid was $181.25 posted in the last 8 minutes. Odd numbers at the end of the auction are good. I don't get into bidding wars. If I'm the first bidder I post the max that I am willing to pay including shipping, if I'm not the first I wait until the end of the auction before I place a max bid.

If I posted F/S thread here or on ebay, I would have no selling history.

I got the GFA 555 today. I think the seller should have posted pictures of the inside.

Looks pretty clean there, Hertz. I hope that's an indication it'll give you years of trouble-free service to your liking.

So far, seems like a great score. How does it sound?

It's to clean. I had it tested at a local repair shop. Nothing needed to be adjusted except the power switch. Down=off. Decided to keep the white one for now.

I had it hooked up to a H/K 3490 and a pair of Polk R50's using a Denon 1930 as the source. It sounded pretty good.

Ha, hertz, you remind me of myself - "Too clean....too nice of condition....good sound....good price....there MUST be something wrong with it! How long 'til the smoke billows out of it?!?" Or maybe just being a little leery of anything being sent from a place called Cockeysville?

I really like my GFA-555 IIs, nice sounding, very dependable workhorses.

    Enjoy!
