FS: Sony CDP-950 with 1541 chip!

Well, won this off ebay and then found out it does not have digi out even though pics on Google showed that it did...either that or I wasn't careful enough in my search of the pics. :redface:

This Sony is well though of by Bwana Lampizator by the way :)

anyway, will sell it for $50 plus shipping, $25 less then what i paid for it. Can get pics if really needed though you can see a few from the listing...

    That's bizarre... the service manual for the CDP-950 shows a coaxial digital output:

    Yeah i know, mine has fixed and variable outputs, no digi one.

    According to the service manual, the digital coax was only on Canadian models and AEP models (that's Asia, Europe, and Pacific regions). Looks like US models didn't have it. That was Sony's way to push the sale of the more expensive ES model.

    I like those old Sony's, but I've already got an extra couple disc players laying around.

    So, if you wanted a CD player with the TDA1541 DAC, why are you so bummed by not having a digital coax out? Mod the thing and enjoy one of the best DACs ever made (according to some anyway).

    Because of no soldering skills and worsening peripherual neuropathy in my fingers and hands, i really wouldn't want to be trying to handle a soldering iron--i hate fires :)
