Hi everyone, I am totally new to the audio world. I have been always interested in music, and I play some instruments but I have never purchased an audio system yet. I have just ordered the 75T and I do not know what to order next. My concerns are what is a good receiver to go with this? If I wanted to make it 5.1 and add 2 more rear speakers, would another set of 75T would be ok? or should I order 55T or rather just a bookshelf speakers for rear ones? I hear that 505 sub is great by reading the forums. Which wires should I get it?
Thank you ahead for advices!!

    Welcome to Club Polk

The next step will probably be the AVR. You need to go to someplace and demo different manufacturers gear. They all sound different. Some people like Denon's sound, for instance, some don't. Not meaning it's inferior equipment, it's just the sound it produces.

When you decide on which brand you like, make sure it has pre-outs. This will allow you to connect a separate amp. Even if you think you will never add one, this is a highly recommended option.

Give us a budget and we'll spend it for you (and probably more ). Welcome to CP!!

Thank you very much. My budget is around $1000. I was reading reviews about Yamaha receivers. They seem pretty good. Or the marantz that's about$400. Is it worth to have rear speakers as floorstanding speakers?

I want to use them for both if possible. 5.1 when I watch movies, and 2.1 when I listen to music?

Definitely possible and with that budget you have a lot of options, go listen and play around with them to see what you like

I have a Denon AVR-3313CI. It has good power, great features, and can be had for less than $1000 (I bought mine for $900 from Best Buy back in November). The new replacement model for this year is the X-4000 and it adds Audyssey XT32, which is greatly superior to the XT in most other mid to mid-high level AVRs (including the 3313). If you can spring a little extra, I would go for the X-4000.
    Front Speakers: Polk Audio LSi15 x 2
    Center Speaker: Polk Audio LSiC
    Rear Speakers: Polk Audio LSiF/X x 2
    Subwoofers: Polk Audio PSW505 x 2
    AVR: Denon AVR-3313CI
    Amp: Emotiva XPA-5

Do you plan on using the Receiver for Home Theater or Just Stereo ?

I really like this thing, It has no amps built in, you add what you need externally as you need them.

    http://outlawaudio.com/products/975.html

He'll also need to add external room correction. Any 5.X / 7.X device should have room correction. There is a reason that all major AVR's and Pre-Pro's have it. Especially at his $1000 price point XT32 plus Sub EQ should be obtainable if it is shopped savvy.

Here is the Outlaw 975 thread at AVS forum. They get into the lack of room EQ pretty quickly.

Thank you for all ur replies. Since I have ordered the 2x 75T, which means I only have the 2 front speakers. I wanted to ask couple questions about the receivers. I am thinking about either yamaha, vs denon as receivers. How is Yamaha RX-V673? it's about $400 but, I am not sure if I need such a good receiver, or should I save money and just go for Yamaha RX-V375 5.1. Or the Denon AVR-1613 5.1 vs Denon AVR-1513 5.1. Is it really important to have the USB port? As I see in the pictures some has the USB in the front and some do not. hmm Thank you so much for the replies!!!

Oh, the $1000 budget was including the receiver, center speaker, rear speakers, and the base. It wasn't just for the receiver. =p. So I'm thinking about spending $250~350 on the receiver, and maybe $150 on the center, $200 on the rears, and $200 on the base.

It may be worth looking used. A friend of mine just scored a lightly used RX-V673 for $275. For flexibility I would look used gear with Pre-amp out.

USB can be useful for plugging in external storage as a source.

I think I will buy the CS10 as Center channel, and I will go with Yamaha RX-V573 7.1-Channel Network AV Receiver.
I am still wondering for the rear speakers, is bookshelf speakers better for rear speakers? or should I get 55T x 2 for the rear ones...? Still confused about that part. + I think i will get the Polk Audio PSW10 for SUB. What do you all say?

The CS1 would be a better choice. They are are the same speakers.

The Pioneer VSX-1122 is a pretty good receiver. I'll probably get yelled at because its a non-elite Pioneer but its still packed with features. As far as the 6 ohm 8ohm question... most avrs are 6-16ohm stable including the pioneer. So you shouldn't have a problem. What sub are you using?

Oh and you should use 12g wire. You'll get better performance from your speakers.

With the system you're building I would go with something from monoprice for speaker wires. You will not notice a differnce going from 16 to 12 AWG.

I haven't heard Denon, but after owning two Yamaha receivers I'm not a big fan. I've had better luck with Onkyo or their Integra line for more punch per dollar. You should be able to find some nice used HT/AVR's for $3-400 or so. If you go the used route you should have no problem assembling a nice system imo.

I know it might be a lttle daunting at 1st .But once you have a set buget then just follow the advice most have given here. 1. go to BB or equivilent store and check out the avr or receivers. Yes Yamaha is fine and do not forget to ask for and get those pre-outs. You will eventually need them ,people move, tastes change and you get power hungry and most of the lesser powered AVRs will just clip or go into protection mode so it is important. If your serious of movies then get a timbre matching set of at least the front speakers. My 1st trip to 6thave electronics I got a Yamaha rx-v665- Deneon cdp and a set of Klpisch #h/d500 smalls. My entire bill w/Jesey tax was $1200.Forget the regular c/d and just for a blu/ray player they again are way cheaper then years ago.You can listen to sales people all day long , if your set on a couple of models bring the#s here and the guys will give you the pros and cons of each....
