Just had a great talk with David Solomon

So I called Peachtree earlier this evening to talk through a couple questions I had, and I end up talking with David Solomon, one of the owners. First, I love that when I call or email companies like Peachtree or Schiit I typically get one of the owners on the line. I've had similar experiences with jason at Schiit and Michael at CEntrance, and I'm not going to rule out the possibility that my encounters with those guys have rose-colored my evaluation of their products, not consciously of course but maybe subconsciously?
My simple questions about a USB > spdif converter they sell ended up turning into a 45 conversation about gear and audio in general, he even ended up giving me a couple tips on my Magnepans! I love talking to guys that have been in this hobby for decades that are still enthusiastic about audio. He wasn't making a sale or anything, you can tell he's just genuinely enthusiastic and helpful, would probably still have me on the phone talking my ear off if I let him.
The funny thing is, he actually talked me OUT of buying their USB converter given my application.
Psssst, anyone looking at their DAC-IT or a similar DAC may want to hold off a couple weeks

Same with Pass Labs or you can talk with Nelson over at DIY audio too.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Yup, its nice to have companies like that where you can talk to one of the owners. Pre Monster purchasing them I had a bunch of emails back and forth with one of the higher ups of SVS.
I put Helipilotdoug up there as well. I have called him asking for some one off items not on his store and he's been pretty nice about answering my questions, admitting if he doesnt know off the top of his head, and just overall is a great guy.AsSiMiLaTeD wrote: »Psssst, anyone looking at their DAC-IT or a similar DAC may want to hold off a couple weeks
Interesting.... I will wait to see what is coming down the pike for sure..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
+1 on Helipilotdoug, great customer service and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.
