Polk Audio SoundCables?

I recently bought a pair of Monitor 7Bs on ebay and just love 'em. My original smaller Advents are becoming a distant memory. The manual says for best performance to use Polk Audio SoundCables or those of low-inductance transmission line type. My power source is a Fisher 800C or Yamaha CR-820 and the run to each speaker is 6'. Right now I'm using stock 16 ga. Radio Shack copper wire, probably not even non-oxygentated or pure copper, and no gold-plated plugs or spade terminals. Any suggestions on better wire or the addition of plugs and terminals? Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays.

Jack, for the 6 foot run that you have the 16 gauge wire is more than adequate. Also, no special connectors are needed; the bare wire is fine. You can't get any "better wire" than what you have now, regardless of what it might cost, so don't waste your time and money. If you haven't done so, you should study this explanation of speaker wiring by a well-respected veteran audio professional.

    Jack,

    Welcome to the forum.

I strongly disagree with John, wire does make a difference. Perhaps he has never tried it. I recommend MIT cables, but there are others such as Transparent, Kimber, Nordost, Acoustic Zen, Cardas and Signal to name a few. Perhaps you have a local hi-fi shop that will lend you some for a demo. Also, keep in mind that the interconnects are more important than speaker wire. Another way to get better wire for less money is to buy them used at www.audiogon.com or www.usedcables.com.

    BTW, nice speakers
