can I ground my turntable to the preamp, or does it have to be grounded to the amp? thanks.

Turntables sometimes have a ground wire that starts near the tonearm, follows the same path as the interconnects and ends near the pre-amp's phono jacks.

Try both and determine what works best for your set-up. My TT is happier grounded to the amp as opposed to the phono-pre.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Probably to the amp, but like what others say, try both and see what works better

Some turntables prefer no ground or the tt ground causes a ground loop hum. I have a beautiful old Hitachi HT-860 that was humming like crazy no matter where I connected the ground. I disconnected it and it went dead silent.

thanks once again for all the input. as of now, the table (kenwood kd-2055) is grounded to the preamp (hafler dh-101) and it seems to be fine. hey fongolio--I took a trip to bc in '75 with visions of moving there. camped in bamf and jasper, among others. ex-wife wasn't keen on the idea of moving--should have dumped her then, rather than later. bc is the most beautiful spot on the planet, imo.

I live in the interior in the Okanagan Valley. Beautiful four season area. Great skiing in the winter and intensely hot in the summer but with lakes and mountains all around to cool off. The very warm summers make it a great place to grow fruit (apples, cherries, peaches, etc.) and it's rapidly becoming world renowned for excellent wines.

Everyday I am thankful I live in this amazing place.
