I would never buy anything that was not already here, except for parts. If you think those UPS/FedEx gorillas mess things up now, imagine the un-domesticated chimps elsewhere. The Gear... Anybody else hear Jerry Seinfeld in their head when they read the thread title?
I generally think of Larry, Mo and Curly any time PFB posts something. The Gear... I've had customs fees once from an overseas order, but I generally have no problems with ebay, DIYaudio, or straight from manufacturers websites.

I was thinking well I ordered a tube integrated from ebay and never got charged?

I've ordered direct from China, no problems--double boxed, reinforced corners and styrofoam packing "beyond belief", bullet proof! As far as "charges", they are OFTEN included in the "price"/and-or shipping and handling costs!

So much for John's comment of all of Asia being un-domesticated chimps and do not know how to ship a package, lol
I have received packages from abroad as well without issue..I've ordered direct from China, no problems--double boxed, reinforced corners and styrofoam packing "beyond belief", bullet proof! As far as "charges", they are OFTEN included in the "price"/and-or shipping and handling costs!

What countries did you order from? did you have to pay customs tax on them ? -

I faced a similar situation not long ago. You will need to go locate the tariff rates for the item that is being shipped, which country, and the total dollar value. Countries that have certain agreements with the States will be cheaper. Once the item arrives, you will be contacted by the shipping company and will have to fill out a form and fax it back to them. The form will require a break down of the charges as well as your own verification. This is required to pass customs.
Shortly after, the shipping company will deliver the items to you. Keep in mind, you are not free yet. Pay attention to your mailbox. FedEx conveniently sent me a bill for the costs to pass customs (tariffs). My tariff rate was 4.9%. Of note, if the total cost is under $200, you pay no tariffs.
Go to the U.S. Custom's website, locate the category your items fall into, write down that number and locate the country it is shipped from. The tariff rates could get very high, depending on country.
