SACD is really grooving, no?

I'm finding tons of titles and I'm pretty excited about this. The fact that they've got the likes of 'The Rolling Stones,' 'The Who,' 'David Bowie' & 'Bob Dylan,' with multiple titles per, has to put the format in a strong position; but then maybe my 35 year-old **** is the only one interested in such things.

At any rate, I'm striking while the iron is hot and picking up some of my favorite classic albums to enjoy in the high-fidelity formats (also bought Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" on DVD-A).

I don't care which one makes it, if one indeed must fail at the hands of the other, but please don't let them both die.

Two Channel Setup:

Center: Klipsch RP-160M
Subwoofer: SVS PB12NSD (X 2)
AVR: Yamaha Aventage RX-A2030

I agree... let one or both survive....

I was in my local CC over the weekend. Finally the DVD-a display was turned on.. it's usually turned off.. this time it was on. but no one was remotely interested in it.. nice thing was it was hooked up to a nice set of Polk RM7200. it sounded sweet.

THe SACD display was turned off. sad

I just purchased an Sony SACD player for $150 and have to say that the multi-ch discs are incredible. I doubt I'll buy an 2 ch discs as the sound is somewhat better than the cd format but in my mind not worth the extra $$

I can understand your position on the stereo SACD's; but some albums, like Dylan's "Street Legal," are known sonic disasters and the difference is supposedly night and day. I'll definitely buy albums that I'm very fond of in stereo SACD, especially if the redbook copy is of poor quality. I'm very excited about the high-rez formats.

I was all pumped when I first got some multi channel DVD-A and SACD and then I listened to them (SACD) in stereo mode. I really like the 2 channel more than the multi channel version except for Floyd's DSOTM (incredible surround). I like the SACD recordings more than the DVD-A. Just my $0.02.

You just bought the SCD-C222ES...correct? (I own one of these BTW...nice player) Do not sell 2 channel SACD short. There IS noticeable difference in most all SACD stereo recordings vs redbook. If you like jazz or classical there are a lot of 2 channel discs out there that are superb and well worth the $ over redbook. If there are some older stereo only SACD's that you may be interested in check a couple out before you dismiss the format. Most newer discs if not completely hybrid...have both a multi-channel and stereo layer.

This may be a moot issue...Sony's pending merger with BMG could mean that we will see more and more hybrid SACDs. SACD II is coming and I don't think SACD is going away anytime soon.

Very close to my sentiments. My players are set up for multi-channel playback but I rarely listen to MC SACD. I've got a fair amount tied up in interconnects that are not used very much.

L&C, where have you been...lol. I've been into SACD for damn near a year now, great stuff.

Not knocking your gear, but the entry level players really don't SACD justice. Two channel is the only true way to listen to music, besides almost all SACD issues are hybrid now.

Decided to go the cheap route with the SACD player until I know that SACD is going to be supported by all the labels. Once SACD is here to stay I'll step up to a SACD player in Sony's ES line that will handle all my needs. Until then I'll have to gut it out.

I do agree that the 2 ch SACD audio sounds better than the cd format but was totally astounded by the way Peter White's Bueno Funk sounded in multi channel. I've never heard anything that sounded so good.

Can't wait to hear how Bocelli, Brightman, Krauss, & Twain sound in multi channel.

    It's here to stay.

I had a Sony XA777ES and it's very nice, you'd like it or the new 9000ES. I liked SACD so much that I sold the Sony and bought the Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista SACD. Can you say heaven...:D

I'm glad you have taken the SACD plunge, it truely is awesome.

I got into SACD because of F1Nut and his damned 777ES....I will forever curse him. :D

I have enjoyed the SACD foray very much, but have been disappointed in the lack of support, and lateness of release, for titles in my musical genre's. I am a atypical foot shopper, and that's an issue, as no ground level support exists on my end. Tower music is the most logical choice and even they suck for dependablility.

DVD-A seems to hold more promise for me as far as musical choice, and it makes me ill know that Denon is my future.... :)
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

SACD is so far in the lead, as far as I am concern. DVD-A has promising technology, and if done right, it can compete respectably with SACD. The latest one of the showcase would be Big Phat Band "XXL" Unfortunately, I have a couple of eff up DVD-A from Silverline that should have not been produced, cause the recording is soo bad. Btw, stay away from Virgin records for your SACD/DVD-A needs, since they are clearly trying to outprices severybody else. Best dependable online store would be Circuitcity.com and selection is respectable.

Wow, almost midnight, Merry Christmas everyone!
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Do you mean that Virgin's prices are higher than everybody else? I agree, but most of the Virgin stuff available here has been imported. Now, Virgin is releasing US versions at normal price levels.

For online stores (still the best way to buy SACD's) try the following:

well as i see it.... DVD-a is moving into the automobile sound now.. don't know if that means they are expanding into different terriority now.. because us home audio nuts just aren't taking to it.. and think maybe the car audio nuts might find it more appealing or what.

I think if you can hook the car audio people.. they may be able to keep the format alive... it's the logical next step for car audio to take.

Most car systems already have at least 4 speaker set up.. mine came with 4 full range speakers.. plus tweeters mounted in front.. that was standard on the model of car back then. Now just add a sub, a center channel speaker and a kick **** powerful 5 channel amp and a head unit that can play DVD-a and bam! you got DVD-a on wheels.

I'm there.. i want it (dvd-a) so bad in my car.
