Soundproofing (Live in Apartment with Paper thin Walls)

So a very bad flood hit the upstate NY area with the Susquehanna River flooding worse than on record, and worse than they can tell in 1000 years by studying sediment layers. Anyways I used to live in a nice two room ground level duplex for $425, a modern one. It got messed up and the landlord really screwed me over. I sued him for $2000 and won $800 but he appealed it and has royally screwed me over. I wont get into all that. So now im in an apartment thats above a garage that when opened by this business owner sounds like a mack truck is being tipped over. Also my neighbors fight like crazy, have a newborn baby, yell at the baby and are just horrible neighbors, then I have another apartment behind mine in the building that I dont hear anything from really.
I dont turn up my system much at all, but I have such a nice one and want to sometimes, but those neighbors have complained about the subwoofer. In my last apartment there was basically one wall dividing the two sides, I had a large carpet on the wall to help with noise from his 5 dogs barking and his rude playing of his annoying music like celine Deon. hes like 40. He was such a weirdo. but the carpet didnt do much. Is it possible or even worth trying to soundproof so I can play my system louder and not be woken up every time the baby cries? its crib is 5 feet from where I sleep, maybe less, its right on the other side of the wall.

So is it possible? I mean I know that sound travels through the floor when your on the second floor of a building, through the ceiling, it gets through everywhere.

Other than moving (Capt. Obvious reporting as ordered!), ask your landlord if you can install QuietRock sheetrock over the existing walls. If he/she says it's OK, proceed to ask if they will pay for some or all of it; last I checked, it's $40+ per 4x8 sheet.

    Or seriously look into moving.

    Good luck.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

Nope. True sound proofing is designed into the construction of a room/apartment. You can dampen sound coming in by hanging carpet on the wall, etc, but there is not much you can do.

I figured so, This place was built in the 50's, and while for some reason it blocks all cell service from penetrating the walls sound passes through like its cardboard. I know inner walls arent insulated most of the time, but it must be something else that makes it this bad, like the large garage underneath? or maybe there isnt much insulation in the crawlspace attic. Somehow the sound travels freely. and I can hear a lot of things I dont want to. Like when a the couple first moved in the were having sex like every other night very loudly. and I have a son who i planned on starting to stay with me more and more, but his mother is being a B and I have to wait until next january until court to fight that battle. Its been a very sad turn in my life, I thought this year he would start staying with me like he has his whole life, half the week. hes 11 now, for 10 years he lived with me half time. now his mom is being an uber B! and I cant afford a lawyer so I have this super crappy public person who didnt even read the contract and said are you ok with it, and gave me a horrible summary. when we decided to break so I could read over the fine print we read that there were illegal things written in it. Like her asking to do things that you cant ask. Shes a vengeful terrible cold blooded person. Ive done nothing to her, I have health issues and since I cant work and give her money (even though she has a well paid state job) she hates me. Even though she knows how serious my health is. Shes seen it first hand, she left me because of it!! I mean she plainly put it right out there " relationships are supposed to be fun, its not fun anymore" referring to me being sick, and not being able to do much. and so we shouldnt be together anymore. I know in a way its good that im away from such a cold terrible ****, but on the other trying to get a GF when you have issues is almost impossible. Its very very tough. dont know how I just got into all that. ha ha.
