NONE of my comments are directed at you Steve what so ever.
But my posts above shows just how it works now-a-days, and a big reason "Made in the USA" does not have the weight it once did!Testing

so you are saying parts and manufacturing costs are in no way affected by R & D costs. interesting....
all i am saying is dissecting a piece of electronics and totaling up parts is not necessarily an accurate representation of everything.
You may need to spell out what you are getting at. What I am saying is these companies (and you would have to ask them) take something like an iPad and do a tear down. With the tear down they get a part count. They get part #'s (and subsequent) tolerances etc.
They then make an educated guess as to the MANUFACTURING costs. R&D is R&D. Manufacturing is Manufacturing. Either can be inefficient and more expensive or efficient and money wise.
What I am saying is I wonder what the quality of parts are in an Emotiva amp vs Adcom vs Rotel etc... Just a tear down and this type of PCB is used, those types of caps and in what arrangement, resistors, diodes, MOV's etc... etc... etc... Just saying it would be interesting.
