I have heard about the band moe and knew their reputation as a jam band, etc, but I had never actually heard their music until today, when I picked up one of their CDs at the local Goodwill (it only cost me $1.99). I am listening to it now and like it quite a bit. The CD is a 3 CD live CD, Warts and All, Volume 1.

The music is quite good. I am a big Grateful Dead fan and like long jams and moe does not disappoint in that regard, slthough the music, of couse, is distinct from the GD sound. But I am liking what I am listening to a lot.

Are there any moe fans on this site? If so, can you recommend any other good moe CDs to me?

I'd like to see them play live. They played locallly (Albany, NY) about a year ago but I did not know anything about their music at that time so I did not go. They do seem to have a very loyal following.

Moe fan here! I prefer their live recordings over most of the studio ones. Wish I could tell you specific ones, but I mostly listen to them over Pandora or through live shows my buddy burns for me on cd. They are definitely one of those bands you need to see live. They are good musicians and play with a lot of energy. Btw, they are from your neck of the woods in upstate NY.

Thanks for the info, dawgfish. They are incredible. The CD just gets better and better. Wow, I definitely have to see them live.

I was just checking out the moe. website and found out that they met and formed the band in the early 1990s in Buffalo, NY, at the University at Buffalo. And, the funny thing is that I was in graduate school at the University at Buffalo at the same time (from 1992-1995). And the website said that later moe. moved to Albany, NY, where I now live (not sure if moe. still resides in Albany, though). Small world!

Check out L which is an earlier live album and imo light years better than Warts.

I really like Moe's studio work. I have seen them a number of times since 1997. Somehow there live shows dont work for me. To me the experience is a little mind numbing. Too much jam and not enough substance. Same thing happens to me when I try to see Widespread Panic or Govt Mule. I dont know maybe it is just me.

First saw Moe in 1997 at a Furthur festival at Merriweather. Funny thing happened. Moe was one of the openers. At one point we had a large portion of the upper lawn chanting We don't want Moe, We want Lesh!!
